  • Results and more specifically spineless shithouse performances like Saturday just gone can define a whole season. We get beat at Burton and then home to Derby the good will wont last long.

  • Cold light of day. 5 games in - 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. The excitable types had the scalpel hovering over their wrists in the pre season FFS. We said assess it after 10 games. Calm the fuck down.

  • the idea of putting folk under that much pressure at this stage of the season is bonkers

On reflection we’ve got what I thought after 5 games - 10 points.

Its just the last 2 performances that have soured it a bit.

Massive game next.

Lets see if we deserve our tag of promotion favourites or just wilt again in a big home game.

Past experience against a Warne team points to a melt, let’s hope we can find our cahoonas.

It's a radical idea this, but if we insist on playing with three centre halves, can we have three centre halves on the pitch, instead of Santos and our second/third choice right/left backs?

Jones & Iredale have been poor this last couple of games and I'd like to see a three of Santos, Forrester & Toal.

Spot on Traf was thinking this myself this morning Iredale is not a CD and neither is GJ even though he’s had some good games. Weneed another CD as IE will not change from 3 at the back and if Santos as done is ankle then he could be out for several weeks.

Wouldn't mind if we had a cogent plan B. If it means teams come at us, and we go over the top, so be it.

Mix it up.

Not sure we seem to have that option rehearsed though.

Given how Evatt wants his team to play and the squad we have currently, the only Plan B I think we can really go for is having a genuine No. 10 in behind the front two (as opposed to the 6 and two 8s we normally go with) to break through the middle rather than always going wide

We tried it with Shoretire last season and it failed but I'm expecting it's the reason we signed CMG

Regarding a Plan B I can see us switching occasionally to a 4-3-3/3-1-4-2/3-4-1-2 alongside the more favoured 3-5-2, we have the players to change systems for each of these. We have got a more flexible squad this season, still in my eyes a proper midfield general is the glaring omission from this squad and without one I see us a top 6 not top 2.

They've scored 3 and 4 already on the road this season, so they aren't shy going forward on the road

He hasn’t been here long, but we have certainly missed Toal

If Santos is out for a few weeks and Toal only just easing back (don't blame Evatt for not rushing him after a couple of nasty injuries in quick succession), we could go into Derby (and beyond) with none of our recognised defence and two wide men who'd be better defined as 'wing forward' rather than 'wing back'. Add that to the absence of a genuine screening midfielder and it's a bit scary.

Time between now and close of business on Friday could be as important a six days as Evatt's had in his time with us. A lot to sort, especially with the continued talk about Charles.

I'd agree with this. Santos out, Toal easing back, Johnston gone for the season. How many of the rest of the back three contenders are truly central defenders? Forrester - and he's not a big lad.

This all plays in to the "lack of physique" debate around the whole squad. Ironically the "will we still be bullied?" question was second on most people's list of issues to resolve after "who will get our goals?" Charles is on 3 and Victor on 4, so we're actually doing OK on that front.

We just lack physical strength in central defence and central midfield. A certain combination of injuries/circumstances exposes it. The sale of MJ Williams was the right thing but the lack of a direct replacement is a real problem.

10 points from 5, replicate that throughout the season and we go up.

let ourselves down last 2 games.  Be tough to get 4 from derby and reading though.

strange yesterday, great save from Baxter similar to their save from vic.

they should have scored first half when they went round the goalie, but we should have scored again second half.

so point gained or 2 lost ?

didn’t really see the “reaction” first half that evatt said the players were hurting from the Wigan result and keen to bounce back - it was the same ineptness.

better second half and really end to end.

All this talk of being physical against us and roughing us up - fucking hell if officials are going to let this nonsense go unpunished because it’s early in the game, then it’s madness.

You can bet your bottom dollar the moment Evatt sends ours out with this attitude we’ll get a booking/sending off.

No attempt to play the ball, but because its a drag down, it's deemed OK.

Should be a yellow, a soft one obviously, but if there is no attempt to play the ball then fuck him.

Can not see on there but he went into Santoss ankle with his boot too.

Just recalled that Joga Bonito music they played after they scored. Horrendous.

Best thing about that shithole was the Beech...good ale, and able to have a fag at HT, other than that a day to forget.

Having a fag at half time!

Kinell, it must have been a bad game.

Forget the 90 mins of football, an away day is just as much about the craic, chat, atmosphere & beers pre-match.

Hardly saw a Bolton (or Burton) fan in town, which was a run down shit-hole. It was absolutely deserted.

Terrace was far too full and stewards were useless, even admitting the standing capacity should be lowered.

I hate going to these absolute tin-pot football clubs/grounds/towns who don’t care a jot about football and can safely say I won’t ever be going to Burton again.

You know it’s been a bad un when people are talking about what time they got home!!!!

Rant over.
