Port Vale (A)

Hoping this will be my first away of the season if I can get tickets, but away capacity is less than it used to be.  We'll be in the Bycars End, the Hamil Road now occupied by Vale fans.

Not sure what capacity of Bycars is but less than Hamil Rd so not likely to be enough to satisfy demand.

£25 in home end for this game so presume same for us.

Well I was pleasantly surprised, really enjoyable atmosphere, very positive, and more evidence of normal folk than anything unsavoury.  For the record, I never suggested we had more knobheads than oth

Mate of mine took early retirement when Virgin lost the WCML to Avanti. He’d been on £72k per year. Based in Preston he either drove South to London and back or North to Glasgow and back. Sometimes he’d do both in one day if his first run was early enough. If he ran out of driver hours (or would do part way through the next journey) they’d replace him and he’d go back to Preston on his own train in first class.

In a few words you've explained why so few people have any patience for the striking train drivers.

It's a political strike. The guy said so 12m+ ago

He & others want a general strike. There's no intention to settle.

The Far Left disagree with that vehemently.

Indeed

If there was the Govt wouldnt be playing silly games and influencing the TOCs

A cynic might suggest Avanti got their renewal for dragging it out as I can see no other explanation

Or why we have H&S surrounding drivers hours.

Would you want a driver who’s tired driving your train / plane / coach etc?

Are you asking normal folk or Rishi and  Bozo?

Dont think there are any proposals to increase driver hours.

Its the guard free trains that some of them aren't happy about.

I must admit I thought that number would have been sold in the first couple of days.  Presume the train strike is a big factor.

Anyway that's one of the last remaining family friendly songs so let's not wish that one away!  We know what the alternatives are (other than silence).

Plenty of alternatives to the train many unofficial travel options these days

Pathetic especially considering the run of long distance aways approaching.

It’s an hour away for Gods sake.

Worst possible time to be playing Vale away. They've had a slight dip recently but they're still 4th in the league and we're putting out a team with several key players missing, notably Santos.

Doesn't get any easier with 3rd place Stevenage coming to town the following week. Both matches have the additional weight of us not wanting the teams above us to open up any kind of gap in the table.

A lot of pressure on Evatt and the lads before the international break but we need 3 really good performances in a row now - and no more injuries or suspensions.

Too much emphasis can be put on the early league table, just as when we were top after 3 games, so much is about the luck of the fixtures not to mention sendings off etc.  The table hasn't settled down yet.  Stevenage's wins were against Northampton, Cambridge, Orient, Cheltenham, Shrewsbury.  Good results obviously but kind fixtures.  3 home draws, yes 1 v Pompey.  Vale beat Reading, Carlisle, Northampton, Charlton, Oxford, drew with Blackpool & Cambridge.  One stand out result - Oxford - who had 2 sent off and Vale needed a 99th minute pen to win.

If we are good enough these are the games we win (if no sendings off/dodgy pens), we can't put Vale and Stevenage in the "tough" column, they aren't going to finish in the top 7 IMO.

I'd rather be going to Vale than Barnsley, Pompey, Derby, Wycombe etc.

Amended for you chaps. 😂

  • The title was changed to Port Vale (A)

Glorified friendly out of the way Vs the filth kids we need to get a win in a game that matters against a team at the upper end of the table.

I sort of agree but the point I'm making is that Vale and Stevenage are no pushovers this season and we won't be playing either with our first choice team.

As always I reckon it will be down to our performance more than theirs but for these games there's the additional factor of how good the stand-ins are.

I think you’re overestimating the loss of players if I might be so bold Lusty. We’ve seen before when Rico’s out that actually we lost little or nothing and the same with Geth who’s been poor for a while now. It’s a toss up between George and Morley and Morley’s more likely to pot one. Dion looked fine last week and is bound to be better and with Bod now back fit and a confident Dan I’d say we’re actually looking good. Yes the bench will be a bit lighter but we saw last night that we do have depth there so I’m not worried at all. Wanderers to win 1-2.

Vale were very good at our place last season. We'll need to be very good to get a win.

Probably the two teams with the lowest wage budgets, Stevenage only just come up, Port Vale the season before last. If we have any aspirations of the top two, we need to be beating these teams.  They have both done well up to now, but wont be anywhere near the top come the end of the season.

Certainly a tough away game and we've won just once in our last 5 league matches with a lot of red cards and injuries in between.

Even at this stage we can't afford to be dropping any more points, need to start winning no excuses.

Dropping 3 points is the same amount whether it is in September or in April.
