We had a discussion on here a while back, which suggested quite a substantial opposition to the project.

Now that there are rumours that the Northern section will be scrapped, what are the views now?

I was always an opponent of it, though softened slightly when an expert lady explained in more detail about the capacity issues on the East and West Coast mainlines.

I know Simon’s wife well, I first met him about 25 years ago when he was trying to sell me snide clothes. Nice story about how he got his lucky break. He was due on a stag do with his mates but was skint so didn’t want to go, his mates persuaded him so he ended up going, also on the stag do was Fred Done. They got chatting and he mentioned this business plan he had…..the rest is history!

Are they trying to get on the jobs for Ponoma Island? There’s loads more coming, I’m assuming his bid team must be crash hot. They’re not far off Renaker for the amount of work they’ve got.

Im friends with a bloke who does loads of building work and general stuff for Fred Done, Paul L. He stays in his London place opposite Harrods a fair bit. Got a lot of stories involving Russians.

I wouldn’t know, my mates doing a couple of his smaller projects for him around Nantwich. He’s got himself a nice big gaff on millionaires road in Worsley, not far from Fred’s and his Brothers. 
Always good to see a local lad do well.

I have a sneaking suspicion he may not scrap it and try and make himself out as a saviour. Even though they are the ones who have been briefing that it is going to be scrapped.

Been wondering about this- has it been a fishing exercise to determine the level of support/opposition before making a final decision. 

Certainly a mixed bag of opinion; many metro mayors unhappy and of course many mps, however there is still a broad range of opposition.

How true it is I don't know, but one mon was saying yesterday that the costs had risen in part by the design changes putting the majority of the line in tunnels. 

He claimed that only 9 minutes of the journey would see daylight!

Barely have any effect in that regard.

500 capacity.

25000 so far this year- we'd need 500+ of them!

Indeed, I've just googled, and it's not easy to find info on it but apparently the rent and mooring fees are £24,500 per day, so ideally, it should be being used

I agree it'll have little effect, but if it's there, then it should be used as soon as possible - sadly, I do have a feeling it's going to be another colossal waste of money, and it'll never be used

Nah not this government!

The Tories are behaving much more like Corybn Labour party at the moment, factions everywhere, extreme positions getting the most coverage, centre ground Tories getting attacked by the fringe events, impromptu press conferences decrying leadership policies. What will be interesting is the split if the party lose the next election.

Anyway, those who think people on the left just take a contrarian view to the Conservative party for the sake of it, are as soft in the head as those they decry. I'd happily back Heseltine if he wasn't 90-odd. The man has more sense in his little finger than this collective of ghouls at the top of the Conservative movement.

I look forward to some actual grown ups back in charge and maybe this country will get back to actual debate instead of polarised sniping.
