It look more than likely that Sunak will pull the plug on the Northern leg and will come up with some BS about fiscal policy and cost of war in Ukraine.

What the coward won't do is announce before the Tory party conference in Manchester next week.

He was discussing their rail link, as I said.

A touch of research shows he's correct, as rail tunnels connect the big islands.

Instead of trying to catch folk out, feel free to do what I do, and have a quick look to check if something seems odd at first.

It's quite informative too- world's deepest rail tunnel apparently.

So who was the fella who said it?

there's 5 rail lines connecting bottom to top as far as Sapporo

around 1,500 miles and you can do it in 15 hours on train (or 32 hours by car)

A railway tunnel connects them.

fair enough.

I've travelled on these "bullet trains", not in Japan, but in both China and Taiwan, they are ace...and they're always on time, which is nice. From memory, when they're racing through the countryside, they're bolting along at something like 280/300Km per hour. I remember last time I was in China, I was on one for over 8 hours, at eyewatering speeds, we must have done over 1500 kilometers, we had first class tickets and they cost us about £45 each 🙂 (I'm not comparing costs to the UK, because you just can't really, but it was amazing and less than half the price of an internal flight)

Surely the other parties can use this to their advantage by promising to finish it off

Could do. Guess they’ll have to have a discussion about which massive shitshow to clean up first. There’s so many to choose from.

Is 50 minutes from Leeds to Manchester really such an issue?

Approximately 60mph.

If the trains were regular, on time and not overcrowded would everyone be satisfied?

The issue is that it is quicker and easier to drive. Because you have the time of getting to Leeds station and connection time in Leeds. That journey becomes nearer 1.5 hours. (We are one stop from Leeds station).

If you think it about why would anyone travel into Leeds to get a train that travels at 60 MPH when you can do the same journey in your own car ?

To put it into context for a Saturday home game we leave about 12:45 to get over and have a couple of pints before game. Same journey by train I would need to a train at 11:30 from local station, so leave home at 11:15 and just off Trainline with no rail card it would cost £30 per head.

Add in unreliable trains it makes no sense to get the train.

Majority of times i use the train, its an away day

If im booked on the 920 from manc, i end up leaving the house around 730 in a cab to get a train from bolton

Yes its prob too early but you never know if its going to bother turning up

So, 2 hours from my house to the train from manc, 2  hours 20 to london

Its dog shit

And its just got worse and worse even pre strikes

And, all the time fares increase and increase

And the licence gets renewed

Sunak got shares in avanti?

Reet big hole in the middle of Camden tbf. They’ll probably turn it in to another Tube line.
