Stevenage (H)

Next up, I think.

Decent start for both teams. 1-1.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the game last night. Stevenage were massively better than I expected but I’m not sure they have the quality to continue to get results playing like that, all up and under. Under the circumstances I thought we did really well to contain them and I don’t think we’ll have a more physical battle all season. I do think that Evatt needs to teach George how to tackle better because it’s his clumsiness that’s the problem. He’s turning into a terrific player and some of his passing is sublime so if he can get that right who knows how high he can go. So for me 3 very well earned points and definitely a goal of many seasons for Josh and Jack.

Thing is Stevenage don't usually play like that. The high press and hoofing to the target man Pressley was Evans' specially designed game plan for us - and but for a glaring miss by Reid, a great save from Baxter and a potential pen not given it may well have worked - but  he'll likely change it again for their next game depending on the opposition.

As for George, he does like to stick his foot in, but even so I think he has developed a reputation amongst refs and is being targeted as similar offences on both sides resulted in a warning whereas George gets a booking every time.

Do you watch Stevenage a lot?

Yes Lusty but their “glaring” miss was because our defenders were asleep and anyway how many glaring misses have we had? They may not play like that all the time but I frankly didn’t see much other than an aerial bombardment that convinced me they’re that good and I think they’ll finish nearer the bottom than the top. I don’t think George is being targeted I just think he’s been a bit silly with some of his fouls, like the one last night which was totally unnecessary. As for the save, isn’t that what keepers are there for? We stood up to a tough task last night and deserve nothing but credit for it. You can’t play pretty football against opposition like that and we adapted really well. 3 points so bring on Carlisle for another 3.

I did a season basically doing his job (not at BWFC). It is literally as simple as that.

Got a link?

So he's simply been speaking too loudly, for YEARS, during every single address he makes, and nobody has thought to mention it or adjust the sensitivity of the limiter? I'm not having that. It even cuts out when he's quietly reading out the Away teams names, but is equally intermittent when he's shouting our own. Almost certain it's a technical fault with the 25 year old equipment open to the elements. It'll be a corroded connection somewhere (probably multiple), or an intermittent short to ground. That type of fault that's almost impossible to pinpoint on such a vast circuit. Entire system needs ripping out and replacing.

No mate - but I talk to their fans who do. Not just their fans BTW. Always find fans more informative than the media. Only ones I don't really talk to are Lincoln due to that twat Jules.

Maybe he's related to Norman Collier?

It is Division 3 at the end of the day.

Think we are all guilty of expecting too much sometimes.

That’s correct Gonzo. And we are just a decent Division 3 side in a decent club.

Thomason was MOTM for me; superb performance after his booking. Kyle put a shift in but he his struggling a little and possibly the reason our midfield is getting slightly overrun. Dan shouldn’t start again but for Jerome’s first 15 minutes he was worse and it was a stupid challenge giving the penalty away.

We ground out the three points and that’s all that matters at the moment with so many out. Though the back three was immense both tonight and at Vale. Sheehan is a lovely footballer and it would be a massive loss if he got injured.

Get the points on Saturday and hopefully we will have more options when Northampton turn up two weeks later.

Biggest gripe for me was the amount of road works on the M6 after 10pm making my 2 hour drive into almost 4 hour with a stop I wouldn’t have needed to make

I do not know what Jerome was doing for the penalty....but.... they had 2 men free at the far post, one of the few times we lack organisation at the back.

Their first goal highlights the issue we have with non stick forwards. The ball is given away easily then played forward. Toal is left one on one and although he does not do well where are Williams and Iredale ??

It was another battling performance. Stevenage look a decent team at this level based on last night and their position in the league. Anyone saying it was 'only Stevenage' is a an idiot.

Like others I thought GT had a decent game but the early bookings are a real issue. He dived into a challenge just before half time and was very lucky to stay on.

Anyone suggesting Evatt should go are deluded it simply won't happen. You can think we need to improve in certain areas without thinking the manager needs to be canned. Neither CMG or Mahomes have had any real impact yet.

We cant complain 3rd in the table not even playing well but grinding out results which makes a change. 1 point is fecking Dan is shit wtf did IE see in him?

Do your own research

Of the opinion that any win is a good one and I don't really care how they come.

But Jesus, that was a hard watch at times.

Good team Stevenage, I thought.

Couldn't put them away at all.

3 more points on Saturday then hopefully get the injured lads back.

36 games left, 25 more wins will see us up.

Easy, right ?😀

The only thing you would be good for is picking up the cones, with all due respect.

That's Rudy's job

I used to have an annual discussion/argument with someone who had exactly the same problem with exactly the same system. Message would always be received and then come first home game, same again. Easily done in a noisy stadium but also easily fixed.

The only system aspect exposed to the elements is a big standard radio mic. Everything else has to be maintained to a legal standard.

There’s probably one somewhere where on one occasion I’d missed a goal so announced the wrong score. And also another where some poor sod had scored a hat trick and I’d given two of them to someone else because I couldn’t see their shirt number probably. Both of which were televised matches. Lockdown job reallocation was fun! 🙈

So how do you explain the same cutting out problem when he's not "speaking too loud"? He wasn't shouting during the Franny Lee tribute. The fault is intermittent, regardless of his volume.

Something can be maintained to a legal standard and still not work properly.

I'll be honest - I had no idea where Stevenage was till I googled it last night. Is it like a posh version of Luton?

I remember Stevenage V Newcastle being a proper FA cup tie about 25 years ago when they got a last minute equaliser at home, back when non league were still semi pro and football focus followed players round in the build up to the match posting letters and washing windows and all that

The "home" of arguably our greatest racing driver.

Stevenage is on the East Coast main line. Great for an away from Leeds.

I remember that, Stevenage's kit was proper non league. Was Shearer's first game back after about a year out injured as well.

His goal in the replay was in the start up video for Actua Soccer 2 IIRC (which I do, because I'm sad like that) great days 😀

Aye piece of piss from Grantham on that line. Looking forward to that one, a new one to tick off but not expecting much from the town centre!

Knebworth is in Stevenage
