I never got the hatred that Julian Darby got

You'd think the fans would get behind local lads but for some reason they are the ones that get the abuse

Nicky Hunt wouldn't have played so many matches in the prem if he was as shit as many made out

you can count Roy Greaves in that too!!

Yep, he got some abuse, but was the player that made us tick. Dont know if you remember, but they used to say if Roy had a bad game, all the team did. He was a great servant as well.

Full back is the easiest position to be critical of I reckon

Then chuck in the fact they're local and everyone thinks they could do it better

Jimmy Phillips, Nicky Hunt, Julian Darby

As you say, hunt was a regular on our best team in the PL era

Yet a lad who sat near me would regularly tell you he wasn't even the best player in his year at school

Would have fitted in well in the modern game, his pressing and ball retention was excellent. Most folk who criticised  just wanted him to lump it forward

Darby was a midfielder, scored a few too.  I don't think position is relevant, they can get stick if they are keeper, centre forward or whatever Pederson was.

I cant think past Trevor 'Sumo' Morgan when it comes to Stockport and our own players getting stick.  He missed a chance for us there and he got dogs abuse to the point he gave us the bird.

I can only remember JT twisting and turning up front, too young to know whether Sumo was as bad as he was made out?

Some might also remember, was Frank Worthy playing for them or the one Asa Hartford tried to cut Stuart Storer into pieces with a two footed waist high lunge?

Sumo also got stick because of his size. Cruel but inevitable.

Don't remember Asa nobbling Storer.

somebody on here wont say a good word about morley - i think hes totally ineffective or something

iredale, that was probably me

:)

joking aside, we have no bad players - some may not have obvious talents but if theyre starting every week, then evatt thinks theyre worth their place or, at least, he hasnt got anybody better

until we have , keep repeating that such and such is cack, whats the point

I know you wasn’t a John fan😀

Personally I think we are carrying a few poor players in the squad but like mentioned further back he can’t get every signing right and if we’re to progress they simply won’t cut it

however the focus is now and getting promoted👍

No wonder he is sticking by him. That’s a lot of money for someone not firing

Why did Roy Greaves wear a no 9 shirt? He never got up there to play centre forward.

Yes, that was the main criticism of one of the best servants BWFC ever had.

Sums up the naysayers generally.

He wore a number 4 all the time he played when I started watching regularly. (1973)

The regular team at the time was

1 Siddall

2 Ritson

3 Dunne

4 Greaves

5 Jones P

6 Allardyce

7 Curran (I think) then Morgan

8 Whatmore

9 Jones G

10 Reid

11 Waldron (I think) then Thompson

Great team that , 7 would have been Byrom at that time.

That’s right Woolli, he started off up front but then dropped back to midfield. Still my favourite player of all time and so glad Liverpool didn’t nick him when they were looking.

Id go more byrom, stuart lee than curran.

And waldron was right wing

My first left wing was ronnie phillips. Then thommo

As another 73er. My recollection of garry jones was in and out, mainly due to injury

Soon after steve taylor had at least one belting season, maybe 5-6

Steve Taylor couldn’t hit a cows arse with a banjo in the reserves, got a first team chance because of injuries & scored shit-loads , unbelievable Brian.

Julian Derby was and is BWFC through and through

I recall stopping at services on way down to West Ham for a Carling Cup quartet final. Julian Darby was getting stick from a few Bolton fans for being in a team who lost against another team which effectively meant a team was saved from relegation and relegated Bolton… or something like that.

It was such a convoluted load of bollocks I doubt Jules D knew what the fuck they were on about.
