Gone from the league

And as yet, still gone

So, teams, unlike Lincoln, who have been relegated and not returned

I think its going to be miles more than Id expect

Include any that went bust while in, Bury, and out, like Scarborough

You didnt

I changed it later!

The descent of Scunthorpe United through the leagues is still insane to me

During Parky's promotion season, they were our main rivals for that second automatic promotion spot to the Championship for most of the season, and I remember losing it when we scored a last minute winner against them on NYE

Now they play in the National League North 😟

Sic gloria transiit mundi.

He is working for the manager Michael Clegg, they have been close friends for many years, Cleggy will manage a football league club one day

Same. Was shocked when I saw what league they were in

I'd say so...

When we first hit the 4th division, and came up in that game against Wrexham, weren't Wolves and Sheff Utd also promoted with us? - bonkers to imagine Bolton, Wolves and Sheff Utd all in the bottom tier.....I think Burnley might even have been down there as well at the time

IIRC didn’t Burnley have to win their last game of the season in the 4th tier to stay up. Might be 30 years ago or so.

Their downfall seems to be linked from  that result. A bit like our Jonny Evans moment.

Southport used to play Friday nights and me and Loft used to go sometimes. Their beef tea was Cerebos gravy.Cartoonist Bill Tidy came out on night at the same time as us and he nearly bowled Loft over.

Them and us appeared in the same football league record in the 70s. But who else did ?

You cant imagine any club being voted out of the League in preference of Wiggin 🤮

Yeh, I remember thinking it could be us in a year's time after Aldershot did us.

Wasn't it Lincoln went down after Torquay's game got extra time added after a police dog bit a player! Still, after all the fuss about being the first to go out automatically, they just came straight back as I recall.

Southport weren't even bottom of Div4 that season. Whelan did some jiggery-pokery and, lo & behold, Southport were voted out.

Surely Whelan wasnt involved with the team at that point ?

It’s crazy to think a club like Burnley could drop out of the football league. It doesn’t get any closer than that though, last game of the season.

Ooops, Southport reminds me

Last 50 years...

They won the old 4th division championship in 1972-73, the same year we won div 3. The same year all the 4 divisions was won by then " Lancashire" teams. They exited the football league in 1978, so, yes, in the last 50 years.

ps. Not read all the thread so if this as already been mentioned, my apologies.

Aye, thought he only got involved in the 90s

Ken Bates was there for a while and he's a cunt as well, so may be getting mixed up with him

With the club, yup.

It was only 27 years after they were champions of the whole thing!
