Marc505 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 (edited) One for all the stat lovers, the xGOT (expected goals on target) rating on that chance at the end was 0.94. I know everyone here will appreciate this. Edited July 2, 2024 by Marc505 Quote

We were invited over to the ponderosa to watch their game last night by my current Dutch neighbour and his missus. As we left he said "We can't wait to get stuck into England". After that added "But you won't get past Switzerland". I predicted weeks ago that we'd go out in the quarters. Hope I am wrong and Turkey knock them out. I'll be letting him know Quote

I think the abbreviation is misleading, in full it means the post contact quality of any shot on target. So 0.94 means the keeper had a 6% chance of saving it. Basically, it was a great save. (No, I don't really understand xG either but it is a metric based on thousands of pieces of data) Quote

As I understand it: xG = pre shot. Eg if you shoot from 5 yards out you will have a higher xG than if you shoot from 25 yards out. xGOT = post shot. Eg if you shoot right down the middle of the goal you will have a lower xGOT than if you had put one right in the top corner Quote

bolty58 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Kinell, my brain hurts. I can just imagine one of the proponents of all this old bollocks trying to knock it into the head of someone like the late, great Tommy Banks. I can certainly imagine his response. Last night I saw two enjoyable games with teams having a go at each other and one truly memorable save. What more analysis than this is needed I am not quite sure. Quote

My great auntie lived on WW on the right as you go up the hill and I often visited her in the late 50s when it was surrounded by fields and fairly remote on the edge of town. I can't forget that the house numbers were bonkers with both odd and even numbers on the same side of the road but with gaps in the numbers where there were no gaps in the houses. Distant memory but I seem to remember 48, 50, 49, 60 as being next to each other in that order. Weird. Quote

Still baffled how badly we played but summed up the season really. Put ourselves in a great position for promotion and then froze when it mattered most. Hopefully the loss can be looked at as positive in summer 2025 of lessons learned and problems addressed and we can go up a level with a stronger base to build on. Quote
