Did you not hear our dreary rendition of GSTK ? It's a shite song to be fair. The Welsh anthem sounded ace.

How did it go today dear?

They outdid us in the stands.

Oh well. Did they sing Flower of Scotland?
Yes they sang it very well.

Some positives to  be taken.

We're not getting bullied like we did,

Victor's clearly on one, he wanted that win.

Schon is looking a good purchase.

Has George J let their number 9 out of his pocket yet?

How shit is the crossing??

Very.  Its one of the things really holding us back looking at the first 3 games, no improvement on last season yet.  Collins usually good for a couple of decent crosses but he's not on his game yet (good shot 1st half but poor generally again).

and Cogley you can pass the half way line

That was my biggest issue with the game actually. I thought defensively we looked more than decent enough but I was disappointed by how little our wing-backs got in behind theirs. We didn't see much going forward from them. With Schön I can kind of understand it as Revan for them looked a threat and Schön likely felt he couldn't be too attacking in case we got caught but with Dacres-Cogley I thought he could have done more going forward. There didn't seem to be the same level of pace for Wrexham on our right side.

Didn't really learn anything to be honest. In isolation we weren't bad, but our record against (presumed in this case) teams that will be there or thereabouts remains woeful. The standards need to be higher than just hoping to pump the also-rans.

Swapping AC, DC and McAtee for Vic, Arfield and Dempsey can't be the new auto-subs for this year. Bet their defence couldn't believe their luck. None of the six are bad players, but those combinations look off.

If anything the subs were too early - last 10 mins we look like all the quality has gone off the pitch.

Dempsey surprisingly looked like he had more quality on the ball than any of the substituted players, but it did look a bit desperate at the end to have removed 3 genuine goalscorers/creators and brought on 3 that just didn't look like a forward line for a tough league game, it looked like an experiment.  Vic was no worse than Collins or McAtee on the day but blimey his touch and control a couple of times was abysmal, same as 2nd half on Tuesday.  Apparently he's in good form this season.

All of our chance came from quick direct balls through the middle. Defence splitters. GT needs to take the handbrake off and get those balls fired off.

McAtee looked to be after playing them loads. But not enough from everyone else.

The sooner Cogley is replaced with a wing back who can take a man on the better. He didn’t do much wrong but he’s just way too cautious for how we want to play. Hopefully tutu does the business.

Schon clearly not fully fit/confident, he was reluctant to run at his man numerous times but he still looked a class above, he will only get better.

Poor that really, all those capable strikers on yet we continue to go out wide and over elaborate again. Our final ball in is just dreadful not improved at all from last season. Very disappointing today Wrexham offered nothing and were there for the taking. The only positive is we’d probably have lost it last year.

Unlikely.  We didn't lose a home game since December and in "big" home games beat Derby and Blackpool and had good positive draws v Barnsley, Pompey and Posh when we had 10 men.  Its a full year since we failed to score at home.  We look more toothless now than we've looked for ages, 4 points flatters us.

New personnel but nothing much looks to have changed since last season which is a worry.

Was the same but different

2 in midfield and 3 forwards

Took some getting used to

We did play some good stuff, and created chances, but despite all the possession and that, just never felt we were going to take it to them and punish them

Just didn't feel like we were ever going to be as ruthless as we should've been as on another day we win that easily

Other things of note

Players were geeing up the crowd at every opportunity, clearly enjoying the big crowd

I like seeing a full south stand with our fans in it

McClean just couldn't be arsed with the villain act, maybe a different story if he scores or they are winning, just seemed like a non event for him

Thought it was quite a good game myself. Evatt picked the right team but it’s not quite clicking yet

Think we’ve got a good side but two things for me. Up the tempo (still too pedestrian at times) and cross the ball better, be it from open play, a corner or a free kick

Would like to see the Santos penalty shout again as Evatt was boiling at the end

Im not convinced he picked the right team and his subs were left too late to change the game… not sure how Matete doesn’t start in a 2 man midfield, all game we only pinged one ball back to front and it was our best chance then we didn’t do it again, it was quite clear from 30 minutes in we wasn’t playing through them, first change should have been Vic up top and gone longer ball more often.

Great playing 3 up front but how about finding a way to get the ball to them?

Sadly lacking creativity, we’ve regressed.

Hopefully he’ll find his best combination but atm, we don’t look very convincing.

Really think Collins is wasted as a wide player. Should be playing as a two with Dion.

I was thinking the same about McAtee, not sure where he was playing (that's not a criticism, I just wasn't sure where his position was, or Collins) but he definitely wasn't playing as a CF.  I thought (wrongly) he'd been signed as an upgrade on Vic but in the 3 games to date I don't think I've seen him in the middle in open play.  Only Charles in the middle which makes those lofted crosses a waste of time.

Spot on, just like Orient GT & JS doesn’t work matete was was needed from the start.

Arfield is too slow and him Dempsey & Vic was never going to get a goal

why on earth we play 3 CB at this level is absolute nuts when we clearly crying out for something extra in midfield

its just no different than last year but he has better players

Knew there was trouble ahead when there were no proper Carrs Pasties left when we got in ground.

Am still not sure where we thought a goal was coming from. The front three have simply not gelled yet. Thought Legohead had a great 30-35 minutes, we were controlling possesion but created very little. Shon looked decent without being brilliant , JDC very comfortable at the back but quiet going forward, McLean looks half the player he once was, seemed to be going through the motions, lad on other side much more active.

GJ looked a class above Iredale and hopefully comes through ok. Santos, I am afraid looked slow and ponderous, Toal did his job.

Sheehan maybe biggest disapointment for the possession  did little with it.

Arfield not sure where he fits in the system, yet to see any type of quality.

The system needs some work as although at least there is not the same fucking about at the back as the game went on we looked less dangerous. The attacking subs in particular see a serious drop off in attacking quality.
It seems crazy with the front 3 we started with but there has to be a question where are the goals ? Would it better with Vic for Dion ?

Wrexham I thought were decent, well organised sure will be nearer top than bottom.

MOTM for me GJ.

Thought it was just a good game of footy me.

No way we could last with the intensity of the first half. They couldn't live us for that first half hour. Grab a goal there and we win 4-0.

They were always going to come back in to it and in all honestly we dealt with everything superbly. Santos was collosus. Johnstone brilliant but clearly ran out of steam.

Dion needs to score that one on one, we should've had 2 penalties and we had one cleared off the line.

There's a lot of good to take from today.

Not sure what that's based on!

Re Santos, I'm a fan of his generally so I'm not one to have a go at him, but I thought he looked as vulnerable and unsure of himself defensively as I can remember.  The needless foul on corner of box 1st half, being too slow to avoid a lunging foul and booking 2nd half, often just about getting a toe to it and putting it into touch or for yet another corner throughout the game.  Passing often poor, gave away possession too much.  Stuck to his task and won his headers as usual, wasn't poor but looked beatable and slower than usual today for me.

Wrexham were like many teams we’ve played against before and we still couldn’t find a way to break them down.

I don’t understand how some folks are praising them, they never looked like scoring. Well organized but very limited.

No progress from us, which is poor imo.
