  • If he was a new signing and we hadn’t seen him up close, we would be wanking ourselves silly after that half, about signing a player who seems to have it all at this level; vision, energy, box-to-box,

All fair points that you make, I think he deserves more than 3 games to get us challenging for the top, especially as it is his first real crack at having a decent transfer budget, time will tell.

  • Most men with dogs didnt see 3 in midfield

Away at United, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal would bring in about 5 times what we'd get here (very rough estimate obviously).

Magic of the cup. For what it’s worth I agree. Lost interest in both comps so may as well take the money and run

OT would be nice

Good performance hope that’s the end of 2 midfielders experiment , no doubt Barnsley in next round.

Massive improvement tonight

lets see if Evatt stays loyal Saturday or rewards some tonight with starts against Exeter

matete should be a starter

dempsey, Desmond & forino all deserve a place

We played the same formation, didn't we?

Solid from Rico and great finish from Charles. Think both needed that tonight.

Tomo ran the show in midfield.

We did.

Don't understand the 3 in midfield comments ...

I think Dempsey and Arfield understood their roles much better than Collins/Mcatee have though. Hopefully those two get up to speed fairly quickly if we persist with the formation.

It was

Southwood

Forino Santos Johnston

JDC Matete George Tutu

Demps Dion Arfield

...but Demps ran around so much I got tired just watching him.

Agree with that, play the same team Saturday. Will give the ones who played tonight a real confidence boost, and the ones who don’t will have to fight to get picked.

We did but supplemented with 2 midfielders 'up top' not collins and mcatee

Played well first half Saturday.  IE always talks about the team picking itself, well the midfield picks itself if we're basing it on performances.  Tomo, Matete, Dempsey until further notice please.

Can't argue with that midfield.

I have confidence in Either keeper but Baxter is still the one with the shirt. Would not change the back 3 from tonight

Firino over Toal at present  JDC and Desmond at wingbacks.  Matete, Thompson and Dempsey in midfield.

Then Two from Charles, Collins, McAtee and Vic

Every man and his dog can see we are better balanced with those three in midfield.

Also noticed Johnston got the ball tonight from Smallwood and not Santos...I do not think that was coincidence.

Well done Bolton and Evatt tonight, but is he strong enough to pick something like on Saturday

Id happily see mostly the same team, but id prefer collins for arfield, plus baxter

We've been here before.

A couple of midfielders pushing forward, or a couple of out and out strikers.

Far more balanced, than with simply 2 out and out midfielders.

Well it wasn't 5-0 but it'll do

Wouldn't argue against that.

True but I'm a romantic. I want a chance of winning. Everton, PNE or Sheffield Wednesday at home please. Not feckin Barnsley!

Exactly without the ball Dempsey and Arfield dropped back into midfield whereas with Collins and McAtee being strikers they stayed further forward .

well i certainly did  Arfield pushed up but Dempsey stayed behind and linked up well with Thomason and Matete

Maybe yours was a guide dog

Yep.

Not purely about the formation, but about who plays in it too.

Clearly not worked before, but much better with some balance.
