Barrow (A)

Are many going on Tuesday?

I know a lot want us to get knocked out early but I see it as another good opportunity for fringe players to get game time, and anyone who is playing poorly to bounce back.

Lovely pint in Duke of Edinburgh (have visited previously tbf so not a surprise)

Bonus of car park next door to pub having an EV charger

Great pies in the ground

Played really well for 10 minutes and bagged 3 goals

Negatives

The other 80 minutes

The bastard rain

The A590

Progress in this competition 😂

Duke was a fine pint, very good pub all round. Spot on about the pies too 👍

But isn't that what most teams play now, admittedly most better than us.

True and that's why I think the product as a whole isn't all that good anymore. Football used to be entertaining, fun and exciting, even when you're a shit team, at least you could be impressed by the oppositions play, now we're shit and the opposition usually plays boring possession football 🤣

there's not much of a high bar at the minute, but again Dempsey was prob our better player last night

Strange how people see the game differently.

Yes GT sometimes gives the ball away trying to pass it forward, but the other hand the team are slagged for not moving ball forward. Risk and reward.

For me the formation was 5 3 2 , Dempsey was playing midfield rather than as a forward and that feels more balanced, Sheehan not missed at all.

Have posted this before, somehow we always look a man short was teams transition into attack but we also always seem a man short when attacking, not sure how we manage that.

For me best bit of the game was that second half we actually had a period of sustained possession and although the goal was not inevitable it did feel like it was coming and then we kept going to add the other two.

Defence awful at times, especially first goal but any set piece in looked dangerous.

Hope McAtee and Collins can gel a few signs that can but just as many where they seemed to be frustrated with each other IMO

Massively improved 2nd half and a superb performance from Dempsey

the playing around at the back simply has to stop it’s a mistake waiting to happen feels so uncomfortable

Bit of a shitter having no game as I bet they just want to go again and put Exeter behind them, I won’t get excited as seen it before but let’s hope this is a turning point👍

This.

A wins a win, like a pounds a pound.

Booing achieves fuck all apart from, igniting the dumb.

Both individuals I think Ani so probably not really a pair as such but both capable of doing something special so let’s hope they do. The problem is Dions an individual too so working together for them all may be difficult?

For me, they want to do too similar things in the same areas of the pitch so end up getting in each others way and unbalancing the attack. Both look happiest drifting in from the left and either getting shots off or playing little 1-2s. Not sure they're natural partners for each other, maybe it might come together with more work on it as it did eventually with Vic and Dan.

bit weird at the moment for me.

Up to and including Shrewsbury, looked clearly 3 4 3.

Saturday, Dempsey was behind in a 3 5 2.

Last night looked a half way house between the two.

Not sure if they've (specifically Dempsey) been given a bit of freedom to roam, but that seems inconsistent with how rigid we're generally set up. Would also inhibit the press a bit.

Be interesting to see where we go v Huddersfield.

We look a bit lost at times, but I suppose a positive view would be that a normally rigid manager seems to be tinkering a bit to find what works best.

Agree, I think we constantly look like we are down to 10 men and can never work it out. Could be down to the effort of our players Vs the opposition, but it is a big part of our issues as leaves vulnerable at the back and lacking options when we attack.

I think we can put that down to a lack of confidence at the moment. Not quite clicking, some dodgy performances, and then confidence drops and players become risk averse.

A good performance or two, and who knows, but it has to get better.

Much better 2nd half, but dont  get the one yard pass from Matete to George and back in the middle of the park, then trying to go through the middle. Just inviting trouble. There was loads of times in the 2nd half when Schon was in acres of space, but we just took to long to get the ball to him, taking 3/4 passes instead of one. We was poor at the back, Santos looked very sluggish, George had an indifferent game, thought Matheson played well, just caught out of position  a few times, Demps as to start the next game, good to see our forwards getting on the goal trail. All in all need to be much better, but, a wins a win.

Frustration a couple of times was a few of the lads wanting to take an extra touch and / or not seeing a team mate in space in front of them. Again perhaps down to a lack of confidence and bit of risk averseness, hopefully one or two better performances/results might free them up.

Concern for me is the formation inhibiting the WBs ability to get forward,  while also taking an option out of the equation when playing out at a restart, increasing the riskiness of it when Baxter has the ball at his feet. His frustration and the panicky nature of it all was obvious last night.

My neighbour suggests that with the strikers sometimes pulling out wide, it can "block off" the route for the wingbacks.

Dunno what others think.

ask your other neighbours and report back then

I do think it's impacting on the scope of the WBs to get to the dead ball line and pull balls back, or get onto the back post to challenge for a cross from the other side. JDC in particular has suffered with that as far as I've seen.

A bit of a drift towards the left of Collins and McAtee last night did afford Matheson space to do that second half, which he did quite well a couple of times

One for @Johnnyrotten

36 irrelevant goals 🤣

Not because you might be wrong. But for coming on here thinking you need to make a point to people who are pointing out some positive aspects of the game.

I think you must be insecure to have to keep making your point, or misguided that people don’t see this game for what it was.

We know this result doesn’t tell us much about what will happen next.

But we are allowed to say that Dempsey played well, it’s good to get 2 strikers scoring goals, it’s good to see the 2nd half come back and see the players playing for each other and the manager.

Glad I went. Another ground ticked off and a win watching the Wanderers which is never a bad thing.

You're welcome 😃

😀😀

Not quite - most of them were scored by Dan and it secured him a decent loan move 😀

Oh yeh cheers pal. @Steejay explained it was your ticket. 👍

It was actually for @CSW’s lad, who decided he wanted to go last minute

What on earth was Santos doing for that final goal... Just completely stationary

Cracking goal by Collins though, and a reasonable win given the pressure they'll have been feeling this week. Shame the international break has come now and that Huddersfield game is huge

Trying to play offside I think.

Didn't get it right.

You could say he got it spot on and it was Johnston who got it wrong by being too slow to push out.
