I reckon if Big Sam was boss there's a fair chance he'd try Santos in holding midfield - like he did with Campo, Faye and Hierro.

I reckon everyone who supports Bolton should forget about big sam. It’s almost as cringey as getting big dunc back to Everton

Does his hatrick count with 2 penalties?  😁

How old is he now?

Been here for 4 years- are his legs not as good as previously.

Almost 30

I do think that part of his game is underrated/unnoticed to an extent.  I'd like to see a stat of what percentage of crosses are headed clear by Santos, not to mention all the interceptions etc.  Even on a "poor" day like yesterday, he was still 2nd best defender after Johnston.

Toal goes under the radar in comparison but he's hardly covering himself in glory, what's happened to his passing?  I just think everything Santos does, good or bad, is magnified and some other players are hardly noticed.  Matete had a nightmare yesterday and frankly looked disinterested (as Charles did last week) but I've not seen one mention of it.  Which is fine because they don't all play well every week, we're in L1, but illustrates my point.  Win lose or draw at Crawley, Santos's performance will get more mentions than most.

Agree with all of that.

It feels like the dissenters need to disprove he’s really valued and acknowledged by his teammates, manager and fellow professionals.

Ha ha!  Presume you're referring to me mentioning his poor scoring record at home from open play.  So, no then 😀  I think that's 4 in a year now, which is better than 3.  Its the 1st game we've scored a goal in 4 at home so he's a part of why we're under performing this season IMO.

But I don't care today, we've won 5-2, its Arsenal next and then Crawley so I'm just enjoying being out of the bottom 4 for now, I'm not inviting a discussion on our strikeforce 😀

Santos is still imo our best defender, but his absolute best spell came with Baptiste organising him and the back line generally. He's not a leader that much is clear but in the middle of the back 3 he's expected to organise the defence. Why not try Forino or Toal in the middle and see if Santos can be better on the right of the 3?

To slow.

And sheehans free kick

Plus dempseys was from a corner

Shit, we actually lost

:)

He wouldn't because he'd have the nous to know Santos is at his best when he can be reactive rather than proactive

In midfield, he'd be easily bypassed

He certainly would. Santos in midfield is a terrible idea.

that first one was as a good a strike as I like to see with penalties, beats a tap in from 5 yards

mate who I have sat with for years loves the "it's there, McAteer" bit

any excuse to say McAteer in his John Motson impression and he's all over it

now we've signed McAtee I hear it several times a game

Even though “they were only penalties” they were both very good strikes.

Did you hear Dion’s interview about them? He’s certainly not suffering from a confidence crises due to our poor start 😂

Tbh, im not over impressed with the second one

First, excellent, unstoppable unless the keep gambles on down the middle

The keeper shows him that side, he hits it so hard the keeper has no chance. Any penalty that goes in is a good penalty.

I can’t believe the song hasn’t kicked back in. Fits his style as well. Tried starting it the other week with a complete fail.

Noticed Big Vic had a song on Saturday.

Can't remember the words like.

Size of his penis mentioned in it by any chance?

One of the proudest days being a Bolton fan on Saturday. Atmosphere was electric. 😍

"Another matchball in the house?"

"Yeah, my Mrs will be fuming now!"

I think that'll be the least of her worries!

totally agree and anyone thats saved is a bad un

so if the keeper stands up and takes it in the face, its a bad un

i just think the second one couldve been much nearer the post

in the end its irrelevant

@Johnnyrottendoesnt even count em

None of our business, and you're an oddball if you're interested.

It is when it affects him on the pitch. Which it did. But you know that
