Negativity round here and on GMR post match you'd think we lost 5-2.

There was issues in today's performance some of them the same as we've had in recent times. But the same 11 should be starting at Crawley next week. Winning by a 3 goal margin doesn't need big changes.

hopefully we put a winning run together and it’s just a confidence issue will disappear over the next few games, thought the two strikers did well when they came on, found a bit of space as reading were looking tired, maybe it’s a tactic we can use over the next few games.

I am enjoying it, cracking performance.

There's always context though isn't there, these are very shite and it's just a slight pang of what could have been about it all.

Thought you were golfing?

I'm sure I'm not on my own in saying this does not give Mr Evatt a clean slate. Far from it. There has to be "more to come" as he's fond of saying. A lot more.

And some of us hope there is

Either way, I bet hes gutted at your opinion of him

Probs keep him up all night fretting

Take your point Paul, but Huddersfield got twatted at home today.

As decent as they may have been last week, we were shite.

Evatt still has plenty to prove, but today was a small step towards that.

If the players perform to where we know they can, and show that level of commitment, then performances and confidence should return.

Clearly, results against big teams will need to be achieved, but at least tonight, we can praise them all, and enjoy the evening.

Exactly

Reading here, its like we lost 5 2

My summary.. a million times better, but need to make it the norm. The intensity and commitment as shown for the celebration for the free kick before first goal was miles ahead of anything else this season.

When their left back got injured the sub they bought on played more in midfield giving them an extra man but vulnerable at the back.

Big Vic was excellent, best game since he got here, wish he had scored. Got things going when charging down early clearance

Dion back to being a nuisance, can not knock a hat trick, but he should not be allowed to drop deep, his touch causes more problems

Captain Legohead, had spells of excellence but like others looked to struggle as they tried to get back in game.

Sheehan, nice touches, great goal, that has to be his standard, much better playing in their half than standing next to centre halves

Matete- thought was the one player that did not lift his levels as much, gave the ball away 4 or 5 times. Surprised he last as long as he did and that Dempsey did not replace him.

Wing backs - both best games of the season.

Toal better on the right

GJ better on the pitch than  the bench, no idea why he missed last week

Santos - sluggish a couple of times but his distribution was 100 miles better than recent.

Fans apart from the pricks with the banner were excellent. The team gave them something to get behind and they did .

IE luckiest man in football, but his team lifted for him, I did not go as far as singing his name  but at least it felt unified at the end.

Arsenal is a day out. Crawley needs to see a similar level of performance. Maybe it is the hope that kills you, but things look better than 7 days ago.

I get what you're saying but I find myself reverting to Chaucers 'Mighty oaks from little acorns grow'.

You just get the feeling that any sort of win would provide an uplift in spirits and a small stepping stone to a better place.

Anything other than a win and toxic is the word.

Little acorns...........

It's the hope that kills you.

It was 4-1. No one will ever convince me otherwise. 😉

A long day and night after leaving the Sweet Green at lunch (dinner) time. Great days.

It was Andy Walker's comeback game after his knee injury too wasn't it?

Not sure there's any call for that. Everyone has strong opinions at the moment. Hardly like I'm in a minority.

I’m in the same boat as you Paul. Enjoyed the win. But Reading at home was never gonna be an issue for me. Another philosophy manager. They are a poorer version of us. Crawley is one to review.

It was very flattering yesterday and they missed some decent chances especially the one at 2-0. Defensively we still look poor a far cry from last season

I agree, despite Johnstone being back in, we somehow look poorer at the back.

I know we have different views on Santos, but (and I really hope I’m wrong on this) I think it’s a mistake taking the captaincy off him. If he was going to drop him, then obviously we need a new one.

But to keep him in and somehow expect that he’s going to be better because he “can concentrate on his game” doesn’t make sense to me.

If he was fragile before then I suspect he’ll have all kinds of self-doubt now about his impact and influence on this team.

I would never have thought I’d suggest this about our best defender but under the circumstances now, replacing him with Forino might be a credible option.

Anyway not to worry, Uncle Craig has told us he’ll be back as captain on Wednesday against his boyhood club 😂

What a weird game that was. I actually thought Reading were the better team for long spells and yet we somehow kept scoring!

Whole balance of the team looks far better having Vic up top and playing last season's 532. And the players really were playing with passion and aggression - where's that been...?

Reading really were perfect opponents for us today but a couple of bits that need addressing before we play the decent teams again:

-defensively we look a shambles. Santos needs taking out but we really need a rethink of how we defend, especially at corners.

-wingbacks isn't working. Cogley and Schon both try hard but they aren't good enough to attack and defend. Schon actually played well I thought but the moment he went forward their right winger, Campbell, was in acres of space causing us issues

-passing out from the back is so badly executed. We cocked it up a number of times again today. No idea what we're trying to achieve with it as we generally don't beat the press and then end up hoofing it anyway

Cracking entertainment yesterday though, I'll take more chaotic 5-2 wins please. Just pointing out the above because the good teams won't set up like Reading
