Been thinking about this a lot recently. 

Have you got everything in order so that when you die your loved ones can find everything / sort out all the stuff that needs sorting?

when my old man passed away it was a nightmare as my mum didn't have a clue what happened or when? spent so many hours on the phone trying to sort out bills etc. much easier when my mum passed away as we had a folder of stuff that needed sorting and the information needed to sort it. 

I had a will but now married probably need a new one. anyone ever had to do a corporate will ?

After my dad’s passing he had his will sorted, funeral sorted etc but we still ended up spending about 200 quid having to do a forensic search to find long forgotten bank accounts. Having most of the stuff in place did mean we could actually spend a bit more time dealing with his passing rather than the pissing about some folk have to do and you can’t really put a price on that.

We’ve got our wills and funerals sorted and I’ve ended up creating a list of all of our bills and login details etc as I can see that being a pain in the arse if you’re not used to doing it

Good topic. I recently wound up some business that would have been a nightmare for my family to unravel. It’s all pretty much sorted now but I had to go abroad to sort it. Before I went, I copied my youngest in an email to my accountant just in case we crashed on the flight. 😊 He thought I was being morbid but it helps me sleep at night. 
 

Got our will sorted nice and early.

My mum didn't make one out and it all caused an unnecessary layer of complexity on an already challenging time.

My Dads now sorted his and his funeral out.

 

mum and dad sorted their's out 5 years ago and they are in the late 70s - might get round to it in the next 20 odd years

I Did a will years ago just before GERMANY  in case i got Shanked in the shower 

My Mum has done hers and Paid up for Her Funeral 

and i have  Power of Attorney 

she has a phone book with names and Addresses in  with X in

Red X invite to Funeral 

Black X just tell 

 

Have a big box file, folder or some such and mark it 'Death file'. Chuck everything in there, Will, accounts, pensions, funeral preferences etc etc

A subject we skirt around a lot, yet rarely discuss (a British thing?). None of us is getting out alive. We should talk about death more.

Mrs Sweep and myself only just bothered to put a will together a few months ago, should have been done a long time ago really. I'm glad it's done now, next thing is our funeral planning 🙂

I have a folder marked “motorway bridge” for the day i inevitably drive into one (either accidentally or on purpose)

in there are all the pension details, life insurance and mortgage shit.

Ive not done a will because anything important will just automatically go to the missus anyway.

Ive also done a video for each of the kids to view after I peg it. It’s just me staring menacingly into the camera and whistling the theme from last of the summer wine for 45 minutes.

Me and the missus did ours, quite simple really, the daughters get the house between them, there won't be much else because I'm doing my best to spend it 🙂. One thing we did do in the will was make it so that when one of us dies or has to go into a home the authorities can't force the sale of the house to pay for it as the ownership transfers to the other, summat like that

I intend on leaving fuck all to share out.

My hard drive will be automatically wiped clean upon the announcement of my passing.

I can see his point and yours. It has barely crossed my mind as I’d trade any penny for any additional time I could spend with my folks.

That said I’ve realised others don’t see  it this way and it’s important to sort. Morbid money seeking weirdos.

Had a proper will drawn up last year. One of us pegs it, everything goes to the other. If that one then marries and pegs it the new wife/husband gets fuck all. Everything gets divided equally between the four daughters. No doubt someone on here knows the official term but it’s a letter that sits alongside the will that prevents anyone rinsing the estate

This thread has reminded me that I need to make a file for my eldest that has details of all monies, passwords, etc, like my mum has done. I know exactly where everything of hers is

Think my financial advisor has all my finance details as they are part of the same place that drew up the will but a good reminder to check

Plus my mate at work gets my 1996 MGF which is almost "as new" and a lass in Brum who I have never met gets my Discus Fish. 

My mates MIL died couple of weeks ago. She has left a note book with everything detailed in it

Included a list of everyone to contact with numbers along with all the financial stuff. Her hubby died suddenly and I think she found hard to sort everything back then so did not want to put her kids through it. 
 

I have 2 assets my pension fund which my missus is sole beneficiary and the house which is on joint name. We do need a will though as she has 2 kids so if she goes first she seems to think they should get anything that is left. 

a list of account numbers is all folk need for bills etc. the phone lines for bereavement are brilliant and very useful. 

We will be sorting ours out soon. Mrs e doesn't like to discuss it but in reality it needs to be discussed. I have recently grown a great fear of death and the fact it is getting closer. if i match my parents age i have lived over half my life already. 

We have 3 properties with tenants in so need to at least have a plan for that. could be an absolute cluster fuck otherwise. 

I like the idea of planning my funeral. mainly because i am a control freak. Colourful, no religion and being made into a firework (ideally after cremation) which would be then set off at a music festival.

Following my recent health scare and 10 day stay in hospital, it was a real wake up call as to how small but important tasks I take for granted but she did not have a clue about as she has not had to do them for years (been married 40 years). We are now putting together a folder trying to cover everything but it’s frightening when you start trying to put everything down on paper just how much needs to be included, we also had someone round the other day starting the process for wills and lasting power of attorney, now that really is minefield as we have no kids so who do you put in charge of choosing your care home.

Put my down for 15% of everything and I'll do all that for you

This may be a daft question, if you want an alteration to your will, do you have to go to the company that wrote the original will, or can you go to someone else and pay to have it amended/altered?
