Was at Center Parcs at Whinfell Forest, Brougham last week. Loved it. Did loads of activities and we splurged a bit and got a place with a hottub and wet room (sauna, steam room and some fancy shower thingy that has water jets from head to do coming in sideways for some reason)

We decided before we went that we’d have no meals out. All food consumed in the gaff and spend on doing activities instead. That went out the window a bit on the second day when the kids wanted to go to some chicken diner place. Fark me. £11 for chips!!

As enjoyable as it was, it just gets dearer and dearer with very little investment. They also increase the numbers on people doing some of the group activities at any one time. Archery used to be a max of 6 people using 4 targets now there are 12, so you get half the amount of arrows for now almost double the price of 2 years ago.

Cheaper to go abroad for a week on an all inclusive but some fun was had nonetheless

We used to do Centre Parcs every year with kids, started in the basic cabins, ended up with a lodge by the lake. Always the Penrith one. You just have to accept the costs.

The better lodges with better cooking facilities partly pay for themselves based on eating in. Toasted sandwich maker a must for lunches !! 😂😂

Kids now in their mid 20s and both have talked about going again for a long weekend. But think place is really best for families with young kids. Used to really enjoy it.

Sal in Cape Verde, 28 degrees, only a small town but a couple of good bars and restaurants, we stayed at the RIU Palace through Tui, absolute quality even had optics in your room, fridge with beer stocked up whenever you needed it, we're looking at going again in February

Look at a map - The further you go away from the beach / you go over the motorway the cheaper you'll get.

Easyjet packages are generally cheaper than Jet2 in the same hotels for the same holiday. You can also use Clubcard vouchers to pay for some of it if you have any gathering dust.

TUI & Ryanair can f off.

or get Traf on it.

Well just got back. Old Town is a great place to stay especially for bars and restaurants . Some cracking statues and buildings to see there but you could do it in one day. If you’re there with a group of lads ( there was 5 of us ranging from 50-56 yrs old) it’s a good laugh, not sure if it’s a great for couples but lots of tourists walking about taking photos. We must have had some famous apartment based on a Dracula film cos every time we ventured out there was Asian/Far Eastern tourists taking pictures of the building. The newer town over the canal is a lot bigger but not sure if you should bother depending on how long you’re there. Best bar we went in was Black Magic (smallish bar) in the old town but going downstairs, full of very friendly locals and bar staff. Depends on what you’re there for. Wouldn’t bother with a trip to the beach at this time of year. General friendliness strikes me as really good with the younger crowd but not so much with older folk. The market near the huge river (side of the old town) is a belter for food from all over but not much different from a good market over here. There’s a lot of British stag parties ( and other nationalities there but not in a rowdy way. It’s ram jam full of CCTV that would clamp down on this. Police are well on top of this) General prices in bars and restaurants similar to here in my opinion. All in all a good visit for 3 nights/4 days. Wouldn’t bother with the beach at this time of year but we didn’t try it. Expect similar weather to what we have here.

Just a foot note, fares from outside the airport charged 50 euros for a minibus. Robbing cunts. Only cost us 17 euros on the way back in an UBER (or BOLT) as they call em.

this happened to us staying in New Orleans

every night, every half hour or so, we had groups of people standing round looking up

turns out we were staying where 2 brothers / "vampires" did a lot of bad shit which wasn't mentioned on the AirBnB listing

The Forgotten History of Two New Orleans Vampires

https://yesterdaysamerica.com/the-forgotten-history-of-two-new-orleans-vampires/

The year was 1932. A young girl stormed down Royal Street, visibly panicked, her stride broken only by the diligent interception of a police officer. Her story sounded a bit farfetched: tied up by two brothers, along with several other victims, and held captive so the brothers could drink their blood.

The girl claimed that she was only able to escape due to her captors’ carelessness in securing her ropes. Somewhat skeptical, the police agreed to follow her back to the home on the corner of Royal and St. Ann. Once the police and the girl arrived at the home, which was owned by the Carter brothers, they were horrified to find, as the girl had described, four other victims, half-dead, tied to chairs in one of the rooms.

All victims had their wrists wrapped with bandages, moist and stained with blood. Two more bodies wrapped in blankets were tucked away in yet another room. The unmistakable suffocating odor of death permeated the apartment.
