I didn't get it so no-one else should?

Get it...i didnt 'get it' cos my parents didnt think it was right to take holidays in term time

I agree, so I never did with my kids

Say next year 10 kids off first two weeks March. 10 next 2. 10 first two weeks of april

Shitshow

I also think it sets a precedent that school is something to do if you want to rather than the most important thing in your young lives

Just

My

Opinion

And it's the opinion of millions of others (myself included) that a week spent away from home stresses, work, school, appointments, shit weather and usual responsibilities to spend quality time doing things together should not be punished financially.

My kids have learnt as much sometimes, if not more, whilst on holiday in the past than they would have done in school.

My eldest lad has autism and going away in the school holidays with places absolutely heaving is a no go for us.

My lad is in a special autism school so they were happy with us taking him on our road trip last year. The council weren't but the school essentially ignored them

We were the same last October, he started high school last year. Never had any issues when he was in primary as he was mainstream but could be quite unpredictable so school had some brief respite and it was never an issue. We tend to go same time of year as it's not as hectic.

They'll ask you if other transport was available etc and generally do their best not to payout.
Like big-name tour ops, insurance companies are generally cunts too.

Think Ryan air will say  the strike is out of there control which it is  but it’s a 24 hour strike and offered a flight back 3 days later so they haven’t pulled out any stops to get us back .
The price of going to another part of the country were airport is open paying for another flight doesn’t seem worth messing about and  with it being a national strike probably wouldn’t get there on the train there out as well and probably get delayed at that  airport . just going to have to book extra nights in a hotel till Monday and sit it out

Happened to me a couple of years ago - national strikes in Germany. Had to get a taxi from Cologne to Venlo over the Dutch border, and pick the train up from there to Eindhoven.

I got cost of everything back from there but had to be persistent with them.

as Casino says, staggering school holidays is the way forward I'd have thought, although if they've not done it by now, I doubt they ever will

Proposals for schools in Pembrokeshire that the summer holidays are cut to 4 weeks. Schools (not sure individually or as a whole) decide where to take the 2 taken off. Must be added to an existing holiday but the 2 can't be added in one go if that makes sense.

it wouldn't be a thing if tour operators and airlines stopped being cheeky greedy cunts.

And all the operators in this country, caravan parks, cottage companies etc. Bit of an admission of defeat on the subject by Government. Parents, including ones I know and deal with in my coaching, have long since said 'bollocks to it, I'll pay the fine and save a grand'

It was around October half term we went too. School themselves knew he'd learnt more in those weeks than he would've at school. Not sure we could've argued the same for an all inclusive in Tenerife TBF.

Like I said, stagger school hols and spread demand a bit

Fucking no.

We go away when kids are in school, not just for the lower prices but the planes, hotels and restaurants are full of feral kids high on sweets and fizzy pop.

We’ve done our bit paying higher prices to take our kids away when schools are closed and now it’s everyone else’s time.

Ah Bryan Hair, you say.
Whole new kettle of fish.
I'll be surprised if they don't make out it's your fault and that you now owe them money.

Dishonest Pikey Irish Bastards.
There's a (many) reason why we don't deal with them.

A few times we’ve actually found the opposite and going during term time meant we had to encounter the feral families who couldn’t give a shit about their kids schooling.

Obviously that’s not the case with all of the families taking their kids out of school at that time, but it did seem to be a fair number.

In terms of staggered holidays, they had it sorted years ago where different areas were off at different times, particularly during the summer. Really don’t understand what they had to gain from the years spent aligning them.

Has Anyone Been to Iceland

and Drove round it

821 mile

is there out to see

is it worth doing ???

We stayed in Rejkyavik and hired a car to go approx a third of the way around the southern end, to visit 'Diamond' beach.  The diamonds are bits of broken-off glacier, there's also a lagoon there with iceburgs. The landscapes are stunning and there's a couple of decent stop-offs en route to view massive waterfalls, one of which you can walk under.

Watch out for the speed cameras though, I got caught on the way back, about £250 - ouch!

When I checked this morning they had some flights take off from the airport malpensa so fuck knows what’s going on why some are cancelled and others aren’t no info in the email sent just your flights cancelled for action out of there control see you Monday or you can have a refund and try your luck elsewhere.
probably a limited service from the airport maybe today the trains were on strike when we arrived and today as well there all at it

Yes, stayed in Sliema, on a cricket tour a few years back. It's all right, plenty of life, loads of bars and restaurants, in Sliema itself and at St Julian's, clubs and the like there. Valletta's not bad for a day out and a mooch round. Not much in the way of beaches, other than at Mellieha Bay

Are you developing an obsession with how long it is to drive around an island?
