BeeversLeftPeg Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 The defending yesterday was woeful all round, but the 2nd goal just about sums it up. Slack pass giving them the ball, Randall tracked 50/60 yards without getting anywhere near to putting a challenge in, JDC miles away from his man. Jones completely loses his runner in behind him and then I genuinely don't know what Santos was trying to do with his 'interception' attempt. We sat in hospitality yesterday about 10 rows back from the dugout, and a minute or so after the opener, JDC came over to Evatt and asked 'who was supposed to be marking him?' for the lad that won the initial header at the back stick. What do they actually work on in training? We played Cambridge less than 2 months ago away so we know exactly what they were all about and the fact their main threats being from set pieces/long throws and we play right into their hands most of the first half. It's a complete shambles and i just do not see where the improvement will come from. We miss a fair few of the big chances we create (even before selling DC), we a powderpuff in the middle and we give soft goals away for fun. When was the last time we conceded and you thought 'great strike' or 'great move'? We struggle putting together a decent half hour never mind a full half at the moment. Quote

If we based our player ratings on Wembley appearances DeFreitas would be right up there! Strange similarity between the Holdsworth Wembley miss and the Comstive one, same end as well. My best memory of Comstive was him scoring the winner at Watford in 2nd leg of a league cup tie, at the time it was our best "giant killing" for years! Won AET, about 1k of us stood behind the goal he scored in. Went to Watford for that, was in Aldershot at the time and my mate drove who was a Chelsea fan He heard the Man and Sythe song at that game 'get out yer barred, police are on the way Strawberry nose' and thought it was hilarious Met up with him in Bosnia years later and he still knew the words and wouldn't stop singing it Quote

That away end with terrace and roof was perfect for atmosphere. My main memory was walking through the allotments pre and post match, and being impressed with a proper stadium with a shiny new stand to the left, and there being 10k+ on. It was a novelty in them days to play decent opposition, and definitely to win against such "giants". Next round we played Swindon, 4 times. We played 8 league cup games that season, 4 of them went to extra time, and we only got to the 3rd round! Quote

McAtee was supposed to be marking Kachunga but a modicum of movement by him and McAtee had lost him. They got another corner a minute later, McAtee lost him again, Kachunga headed back across but they didn't capitalise. They got a free kick on their right two mins later, Kachunga was free again but the lad overhit the cross and it went out of play. The second goal's been played enough on the highlights, the Benny Hill soundtrack is spot on. When we defend corners and set pieces with our current front three we're effectively defending with 7 men. One of those three at least might as well be left upfield, out of the way and occupying a defender or two. It's pathetic, rank amateur stuff that has us on course to let the best part of 70 goals in over the season Quote

I might be doing him a disservice, but has McAtee won one header offensively or defensively all season? For someone who isn't small, its mind boggling. And virtually every time he comes back to defend during open play, he clumsily gives away a free kick in dangerous position (Cambridge scored from one at their place, or was in Northampton, or both?). He really needs to be told to stay well away from our defensive third in either open play or set pieces. But the IE rulebook is 11 back, so an ability to defend is an irrelevance to an inflexible, stubborn manager. Quote

Despite the shit show end of last season , they've been right behind the team and manager. Fans were still willing to forgive Evatts previous embarrassments against Wigan 3rd time around, even singing his name at kick off with 24,000 in attendance for a 3rd tier game. All to be served with a steaming pile of shit, no heart, no effort and tactically beaten again with the manager adding another to the growing list of big game failures. Average crowds of 22,000 this season, record season ticket sales. Even recently had 2000 away at Mansfield on New Year's Day. 2000 sold out away at Rotherham in the snow at a 12:30 KO. All to be let down yet and yet again. The fans are the least problem with the club right now. We've shown support throughout this season and fans have had enough seeing no change in action. The fans are the very heartbeat of the club, the custodians and the customers that long outlast any player or manager. And telling some of your customers to "fuck off" is firstly unprofessional in any walk of life from anybody in a managerial position and secondly is a sign of somebody who mentally cannot cope with the pressure. Blondi Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 Can't believe we've conceded the same amount of goals (39) as bottom of the table Burton fooking Albion! Quote

We sit in the North Lower and I think that was the free kick when it was still 0-1 & we had all 11 players in our box. They had 2 unmarked lads stood a yard or so outside the box. All it needed from them was a short sideways pass to get a free hit on goal. I was surprised they opted for another cross. I'm amazed we continue to do this. Quote

A side with a bit more quality in final third would have been 3 up before we put a move together Quote

Had the ball played in to him about 5 times with his back to goal in the first 20 minutes and lost it every time. Gave away a free kick as you say and got booked for a stupid challenge. He's not good enough to have ever really nailed down a position. Quote

He's not a striker, has no pace so can't play out wide and continually gives the ball away making me think he's not a 10. Any ideas? Quote
