2025/26 League One Season

Early, but am I weird to be kinda looking forward to a fresh season under Schuey, with some of his players to come in?

Just trying to move on from this catastrophe of a season as quickly as possible for my own sanity.

We know Cardiff City & Plymouth are joining us along with one other of either Hull City, Luton Town, PNE, Derby or Stoke. Would like Hull or PNE personally, think they'd be less of a challenge than the others.

Port Vale, Doncaster joining too along with potentially Bradford and one more. Nice to see some northern clubs coming.

Glad to see the back of Brum and Wrexham. I think as it stands we will be the favourite to go up, will also have the leagues largest attendances, and probably the biggest club by some distance with big hitters less prominent. Pressure will be greater than ever, yet I'm looking forward to it.

Its been one long season, I guess the first thing everybody needs is a big long break.

That's right. Stockport are outstandingly well recruited, prepared and coached, in training and on matchdays. No stand out talents, no mavericks or ballers, just strong, fit, fast and decent players,

No problem with trying him out n loan.  But to buy him on the strength of his performances whilst here ? wowsers.

Reading worth a little interest at that price

Worryingly, I think Wigan will do well next year.  They were already pretty tight at the back and I could see Lowe sorting them out as a better attacking force.

I can't see Wigan doing much, apart from turning into world beaters against us.

Although under SS I'm confident we can right a few of these derby defeats next season, and there's a lot of localish games next season so we'll need to to be challenging.

Didn't realise Luton got relegated again, playing in the prem two seasons ago and now in league one. Don't think we plummeted that hard did we?

theyre probably pre-preparing for bankruptcy again already

That looks a very competitive league , we need to buck up bigtime.

Two big central defenders essential in this league , possibly got one but injury prone ? need to sign a Sweeney / Kerr type . Can’t concede nearly seventy goals again.

Quite impressed with Orient players Currie (on loan from Oxford ) & Galbraith on loan from the rags (I think). Not to mention Kelman from QPR.
Shows the loan market can be decent as long as you get it right.

Think it was 2 seasons in the 2nd tier in the early 80s before we dropped to 3rd and 4th.

Was consecutive from champ to league 2 recently I think.

Galbraith did play for them a while ago but he signed for Orient in 2023.

Building a new stadium so probably a lot of  prem money and parachute payments may be earmarked for that but there budget should outstrip anyone

I would say Luton , Cardiff , Wycombe , reading top  4 fighting it out then out of us Huddersfield , Blackpool , orient , Stockport , Plymouth , top 10 wild card Bradford

Finished lower down the 92 for nine consecutive seasons from 79/80 to 87/88, although the last one was promotion so really it was "only" 8 years of decline.  My first regular season of hardly missing a home game was 80/81, all I knew was struggle and low crowds but I had the bug.

Ask em when they lose 7-1 to Accrington. Not a lot will top that

Orient used the loan system very well, there was also Donley from Spurs who looked a cut above our level. Us turning our noses up using loans to the same extent as others was daft

I know it’s very early and squads are to be shaped but Reading look good at 20’s. The trajectory is only going upwards with all that’s going on there.

This over reliance on loans causes havoc though.

Say orient have loaded 3 decent, they're not guaranteed to get 3 decent this year,  or those exact same positions.

Hence why we had Trafford one year and Coleman the next.

Did we turn our nose up ? We may have, I genuinely don't recall.

I do know that after the tremendous finds of Trafford & Bradley we then took on some right duffers & from the Liverpool, Stretford, Citeh stables ... & generally ones that haven't moved on to be successes elsewhere.

Maghoma being the only notable success since. Matete ... well, there have been a lot worse but not up to that previous standard.

Maybe we lost our touch, or our nerve.

Markham fault !

We didn't though

Our first choice goalkeeper went from Trafford to Baxter

The loansxare an opportunity to sign real quality we otherwise couldn't afford and which for us could be the difference between going up and not

Mbete and Ogbeta other particular lowlights.

We had Nlundulu, Shoretire and Mbete on loan at same time as Trafford and Bradley

Following season we had ogbeta, Ramsay, Taylor, Ashworth and maghoma

This season we had Murphy, Matete and Etete

I don't think we turned our noses up, just you forget about the ones who did nothing

We also invested more in our own squad last season then previous which didn't work out either
