  • Or it illustrates how far ahead of every other league the English Premier League is? English teams, including Chelsea, won two of the three European club competition. The so-called powerhouse, PS

I'm guessing non-football folk everywhere will be relishing the break from wall to wall matches on TV....so I had to laugh when I saw the TV listings for Sunday evening.  ITV Soccer Aid, C4 England U2

As per the YouTube thread I’ll stick to watching The Big Match Revisited. Far more interesting

I had a quick Google and found it's on something called DAZN and 5.

Channel 5 have 23 games for broadcasting.

I wasn't going to watch as it's a sham, but I think I might watch some of the Boca Juniors and River Plate games as I've never really seen them play.

Day 1.

I reckon the big clubs will have been asked to take it easy against the clubs from lesser leagues

I'd never heard of Wydad AC and Ulsan before

The knockout rounds could be quite interesting

I'm not watching it on principle - mainly because people in the US seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that this is somehow the most prestigious competition in club football - instead of a money making exercise.

another meaningless competition

Wait until your lads are in it

team like ours would give it some credibility tbf

Our u21s games in the Euro u21 champs are on C4, first one was on last night v Czechia

Its not meaningless to the mega rich clubs that are in it, it just gives them even more wealth.

Fewer than 25,000 tickets sold for the opening match

Oh dear

It's a piss poor concept & simply adds games, & cash, wherer it's least needed.

Cue the screams about tired players, over-full schedules and the need for smaller domestic leagues.

... & the day Auckland fc is deservingly in the Global elite I'll eat my hat.

Like the idea  but come on, these young lads must have as much interest in playing as I do for watching wimmins games

People just might be underestimating this

There's a lot of prize money at stake

That last sentence sums it all up.

A big part of me wants this tournament to fail miserably. It's unnecessary. I also want all the European teams to dick every other team in the competition, thus making this tournament the Champions League illegitimate spastic brother.

Are city allowed to play in this with their FFP punishment due sometime this decade?

I'm gonna watch the games because it's football and something I enjoy watching, new signings on show as-well, I don't agree with it though, just adding extra games onto players, the benefit they'll get through money might not be worth it if their best players are fatigued/injured/etc and with their rivals like Barca(Real), Liverpool(Man City) having a summer off, World Cup is next year too, these players will need to managed well, or else they'll be cooked by time business end of season.

Take it the Saudis and FIFA didn't manage  to force through Ronaldo moving to Al Ahly before this tournament. So the global internet football fans can wank on about Ronaldo v Messi as if they were still relevant.

will watch (meaning put it on in background) the 8pm games but not really arsed tbh

Inter Miami are only in it because the US get one qualifier (LA) and one place for being hosts (Miami), which is crap but they wanted Messi to be involved

They'll get away with a slap on the wrist.

There's about 3 charges worth their salt.

Probably and it stinks really when you see other teams punished

Last day of US Open golf for me, no football in June unless its World Cup or Euros comp or qualifiers.
