Plymouth Argyle (H)

Already a big game this.

Reckon on a bigger pitch with more space we will carve these open with our new found pace.

3-1

Couple of our chances shown here. Should've/could've had a few more looking at this really - only negative if I'm clutching at straws. Good performance!

The look on his face after we scored , about 8:20 into video - got to feel sorry for lad, up at 4:30 for that.

The telling thing in SS's post match was that 'I thought it was a game for certain individuals today', suggesting Barnsley away may be viewed differently.

He also said that those were left out today weren't out because we'd lost. About seeing particular weaknesses in the opposition and using certain people to exploit them

Yeah, today's selection proved to be the right one but it almost certainly wouldn't be next week

In his interview, SS said it would be the same “squad” for the Plymouth game as it was for Stockport. Not team, not team plus those who were on the bench, but squad. Which basically gives nothing away so I was wondering if he just might make changes? I know folk on here would. I guess the idea of a squad is to have at least two players for every position and use them in an appropriate way for each opposition we come up against - so will it be a different team for Plymouth or is he just trying to keep folk guessing? Or is he backing what he sees as being our best eleven of those available?. Can’t wait to see.

I was very chuffed that Schumacher decided to go with the horses for courses approach in the end. Bodes well for the rest of the season as we already have a fairly diverse range of talents in the squad and we know that opposition sides are well scouted and analysed before games. I think it also gives us an edge in that it’s difficult for them to work out who will start for us and disrupt their planning.

I didn't manage to watch it and I haven't gone through the comments, but the clean sheet excites me the most

I just watched  the highlights, and the second goal i love. It just never seemed to happen  last season

Duberry is going to cause serious problems for full backs this season.

A tier below I know, but he’s not how they described him a few weeks back.

Hopefully our next Frandsen, Youri, Diouf or Blake who were ace for us and average for them.

Excellent performance and result.

Every single player had a good game. I thought Conway, Duberry, Simons and Burstow were excellent.

That second goal was something we haven't seen in a few years.

Great stuff.

Come On You Whites!!!

That game was total dominance. It’s almost irrelevant trying to judge Plymouth. We dictated everything

With last season’s Evatt ball, Santos and Baxter would still have f*cking about with it at the back 10 minutes later.

I wouldn’t underestimate the contribution TSL will make. The fact we can play short or long (or in between) from the back makes a huge difference. Under Evatt, opposition teams knew we were always going to play out, so could set up accordingly. Now we can mix it up, we’ll find it easier to exploit gaps.

Same going forward. Without fail we would employ slow, sideways and backwards passing under IE, so teams could get into a block and we had to somehow counter it (which we struggled with).

Now we can go down the wings, we can play through the middle (which we did very well first half against Stockport), players will cut in from wide positions and run at them (even Conway from left back). The opposition can’t set up to stop it all. If Dalby can hold the ball up, it brings direct long ball into play too.

It’s a very exciting watch when we can mix it up so much.

by just kicking a long ball and letting Gale and ACD run onto it was causing their defence issues..

It makes all the messing around at the back seem pointless.

Just hoping that when teams set up to counter that, that there's a plan B

I agree that TSL will have a huge impact, the ability to go back to front quickly and accurately causes havoc at this level. Last season we really struggled with this. But the season before with Trafford and Bradley we did exactly the same.

Last season under Evatt was wank, but let's not completely re-write history. The season before, whilst ending in a horrible way, wasn't all bad and had similar traits to the TWO games we have seen so far this season.

Let me know how it goes mate. Mine is a little older and I’m waiting as I think I took the others too early and none of em liked it. Taken my niece a few times from age of 9 and she loves it.

Took mine (then aged 5 and 3) to a home game, then again to an away game (aged 7 and 5) and they weren’t ready. Not enough attention span. Did Crawley away last year and they still got a bit restless.

Took my eldest to the Preston friendly (he’s almost 9) and he loved it. He’s now well into it. I think I will leave my daughter another year before taking her again.

Cheers. It’s certainly different from our time. My gut does say wait a bit.

Re writing history is suggesting it was good under Evatt. The man was an utter fraud

Needed a little lay off or through ball to others really, but can’t blame him for not doing so in that situation. He was excellent yesterday.

That take down from Cozier-Duberry gave me escape to victory vibes. Could watch it all day

We had good times under Evatt, he was successful and we won lots and played some good football at times.  He ran out of ideas and was found out.  The stats do not lie on that. You didn't like him from the start, your opinion was proved correct in the end.

But it is old, well trodden ground. So I will leave it there.

The long ball is plan B , most of the time we are playing out from the back. But if teams start to press the keeper pings the ball.

It simply uses the space created by the press.

Interesting to see our goalkeeping coach celebrating at the end with our 2 keepers, hopefully more clean sheets to come.

Looking back at this, I'm glad he didn't persist with McAtee 😀

Not trying to point score or anything but when you've got another direct competitor for the position and the player in the team has played badly it's good management to swap. Sends a clear message that there aren't any "untouchables", unlike the Evatt era.

Aye, fair enough and didn't expect so many changes

Whilst I didn't think Randall was great I think he'll start the next league game

Didn't see anything at all from McAtee when he came on

Be interesting to see who gets the nod on Tuesday

Mcatee can hopefully be moved on the make room for a replacement
