Time for a new manager?

Still a few weeks left of the transfer window, can we even afford to let him go? results are shocking.

  • I don't think this board needs the opinions of a Canadian Bolton fan with no family ties to the club 😅 but I appreciate it. I come here to read and I appreciate the broad range of opinions (joined 200

  • Just a lurker here. Was well pissed off that day and had a knee jerk reaction. SS in.

  • That's me. On paper he ticks every box. But it's not working. I just hope he's got it in him to get it working. For me he's got one shot in this window. He's got zero credit in the bank

Go for it.

At Plymouth his tactics focused on wide overloads, early crosses, and late-arriving midfield runners, the attacks were direct and aggressive, often bypassing slower build-up to exploit space quickly. It's a system which empowered individuals like Whittaker and Hardie to drive at defenders and take risks.

At Bolton his tactics are based on sustained pressure rather than fast breaks, recycling possession to create better angles and structured rotations instead of free‑form wide play.

The tactics we currently use will never work in League One.

Sorry, do you think we're actually making decisions here? Or just answering a question on an internet forum?  Well I already answered the question in the first 2 words

If this thread was 'Should we sign a new striker or stick with Bustow/Dalby?' would everyone need to name a replacement before answering 'yes'? I would think so yes , other wise they can sign me or you as a replacement . Doesnt improve anything but hey , youve got your replacement .

The question is whether SS is getting the best out of this group and giving us the best chance of promotion. If the answer to that is 'no', then we need to be looking elsewhere. Who that specific person is, it's unlikely anyone here has seen enough football to say anyway.

The question isnt that at all , thats your question about something completely different . And if your answer is no to your own question then it seems you are advocating booting the manager without the first fucking scooby do about what to do next .

I hope you are pissed cos id hate to think you are that puddled.

I still have faith but I expected better.

Definitely feel puddled trying to make the slightest bit of sense of that.

Automatic probably out of the window now but we still have +7 goal difference which in my opinion, puts us in the top half of the play off slots

Not bad after an iffy Christmas campaign.

Some self reflection required in all departments, tweak the system and push into Easter and see what drops...

As frustrated as I am right now, this guy has had 1 transfer window to completely change the entire squad and system. Perhaps our earlier form and size of the club gave us false hope.

We've been poor tactically recently and Schumacher is to blame for that. His excuses with pitches and tired bodies despite a mammoth sized squad has not helped one bit.

But I just look at our squad and think that some of these players are just not good enough. If our players made half as less as the mistakes they have made this season, we would be top of the league.

I know they're league 1 players and will never be perfect, but I look at our goalkeeper position and think, we need better. I look at Johnston, we need better, and particularly at no10 and up front, we need better.

I'm almost certain Schuey is thinking the exact same thing, but he was never going to get it done in 1 window. He's already offloaded crap from last season, Forrester, Victor and most likely Cogley, who being honest, are all not good enough as well.

22,000 fans on average in this league after 5 years stuck is a joke. So personally I don't really have a problem with the overreaction, we need better.

My personal approach is looking towards the board now. They got a manager who's done it before at this level and shown in glimpses. But a squad that still vastly needs upgrading.

We've got some talented players but it's a very very young inexperienced squad. How many promotions between the lot of them? We need more Christie's who have been there and done it, but still have the talent. An experienced centre back or goalkeeper and striker would make the world of difference.

They need to get their hands in their pockets and get this club going in the right direction.

Our club reminds me of a big old ship that's at the bottom of sea and is slowly trying to be pulled back up to the surface. But we need bigger and stronger tools to do so.

We got the manager, CEO, sporting director, head of recruitment, led advertising boards, the 22,000 fans on the side in a premier league standard stadium, the lot.

Now frigging back this manager now and get those players that we need. No excuses.

Not read a single reply to this, and won't he back on this thread, but just wanted to say........

Fucking behave yourself now. You want us to turn into one of those clown clubs that turns over mangers every 12 months??? Not for me that shenanigans

Last week he’s getting grief for not changing it and now the cheeky scamp does it a minute before half time. Can’t win……

In all seriousness, big advocate of having him here. Just frustrated he tinkers and fucks about with the squad too much, pick a system pick your best for it and stick with for a period of games, pick a bench you can impact with and tinker mid game which he showed he can do. Squads always different and the first x1 is always changing, which probably has the knock on effect of the harmony in the camp. Fishhooking players on 44 mins won’t help harmonise the squad either.

not at panic stations yet. frustration island.

I believe, after a few decades watching this club all over through thick-ish and thin, that on the whole people prefer it when things are not going well.

We revel in chaos.

That's where the booing starts after 5 minutes, or when passes go back not forward, when the forums kick off, where your WhatsApp lights up, where the emergency podcasts get made, where people pine for the past.

Where fans start pleading for apologies and refunds from the club when really its their money and their choice to travel and they say its all just about the day out anyway after all. Where people start saying actually Im not going to Wigan anymore because we might lose and I cant handle it.

OINO, apparently.

I don’t disagree with you, I think there are plenty that love the chaos and the ability to use it as a way to vent anger from wider frustrations.

BUT

Bolton winning a league game in the third tier is not a big deal. It’s expected. No WhatsApp’s are lighting up because we beat Northampton at home.

Not winning in this league is a big deal and will get far more attention. The lows are much lower than the highs are high. It will change when we finally get out of this shithouse of a league.

Anyone who's been even slightly paying attention to the past six or seven years would know that this is complete horseshit.

20k a week at home, however many they'll give us away, 30k sold for a tinpot final four hours away... just to hope we lose.

Good numbers does not equal good support. We are fairweather. We're no better or worse than anyone else.

As the later days under Evatt proved and will unfortunately end up proving again here under SS, busy home attendances or taking a few k away seems to give people a sense of entitlement that we're some kind of incredible fans who deserve better, when in reality we're as reactionary and as toxic as anyone the minute things start going badly.

If you take 1,002 to Peterborough but the majority are booing or are joining in with the "we're fucking shit" chants barely half an hour in  you may as well take 150.

Our best chance of getting up this season is riding a new manager bounce and seeing where that momentum could take us.

Would be horrific next season if this pool of defenders and central midfielders somehow fluke the play offs. Not that  midfield mardarses who go hiding  if the opposition play rough house tactics will win play offs.

Before you get too excited about tactics you thumped at Wembley as Evan treated it as a cup final and we had a nice day out

I'm not taking anything away from our glorious win, but I can't be the only Bolton fan that thought Plymouth weren't hugely up for that game as we were.

Once we'd gone 2 up in about 10 minutes, you looked more concerned about preserving yourselves for the real target for the season.  Kachunga looked better than Hardie that day.

Us being very forgiving of shit like Johnston and Sheehan has got us in this position. We need to have higher standards

Oddly no reply from the cantankerous one 🤣🤣

Today's reaction, whatever it was, isn't in isolation. It's being 6th in L1, 1-0 down to Peterborough having won two away games all season. A big chunk of those fans will have been at most of those, plus a 4-0 defeat to Swindon in the cup and yes they absolutely deserve better. And they've been told over and over again that they would be getting better.

In the past six/seven years we've had periods where we've plummeted down the divisions, attendances and general interest went through the floor and we nearly went bust to boot. And then we had the initial years under Sharon & Evatt with a promotion, cup win and basically everything up to kick off against Oxford.

The idea the majority (or even a significant amount) of our fans were happier during the former, because there was plenty to moan about, is obviously not true.

Calm down ya cunts.....

(I haven't read any posts in this thread, and I'm certainly not reading any in the match thread....)

Are we still the 2nd best defence in the league? If not we will be 3rd surely? Who'd have thunk it?

So the only replacements you can think of are either crap managers or managers that won't even come here?

Proper weird, you. Where does he say that?

Plus, why can't we have a say on whether he should go or not without having to name the replacement 🤣

We can agree that things aren't good enough without the need to say how they improve. It's just a football forum, we aren't all directors of football, believe it or not.

I’m amazed how quickly people are turning on schuey, bearing in mind the majority gave Evatt the keys to the kingdom. We’re 6th.

He seems to of lost his head which is probably more concerning. Constantly tinkering with his team and his tactics. Then today, hooking our best player this season minutes before half time.

Hopefully if we can get rid of a few, he won’t feel the need to keep players happy and mess around with the team as much.

With the the exception of Cozier-Duberry (and maybe Gayle), who have recently been as bad as the rest, I'd argue every single one of SS' signings has been a bad one.

So I'm not sure where all this confidence has come from about giving SS another transfer window, surely this is just asking for trouble .
