L/H White Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Port Vale not sold either Feels like the season is over and we're just waiting for the playoffs, nothing to play for as such I'll probably sack Cardiff off if we can't go up auto Quote
jmjhb Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Not far off 2000 for Rotherham and around 2400 for Port Vale, not that bad Quote

Stig Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I've got a spare child ticket (i.e. under 14) if anyone wants it. Nothing weird, I have kids and they are now busy Quote
Burndens Bogs Posted March 11 Posted March 11 One win in 4 now for Cardiff, but they play serial losers Exeter on Saturday. Quote
jayjayoghani Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Sure its been mentioned before but next 3 games against teams 22nd 18th and 24th. Last 7 games against teams in top 11. Game 43 against Cardiff could be tasty. HMSPiss2ndPlace has set sail 👍 Quote
Lostock Whites Posted March 11 Posted March 11 (edited) The permutations change game after game. Even though there's only 10 games left and a 9 points game it could still change so much. Cardiff could win 2 games or even just 1 and we drop points in both and it's a 13+ point gap and would be a big ask. Or, let's say we win our next 2 and Cardiff don't even lose, say they just draw both and then that gap could easily go down to just 5 points with us to still play them at their place. Long way to go. Stating the obvious here, but we really need to just concentrate on winning one game at a time. The positive of all of this is we still have something to chase and hopefully that hunger can really drive us on whilst also be making Cardiff look very nervously over their shoulders. They've been in the top 2 all season and are showing signs of crumbling. They've got a talented but young squad and are definitely there to get at. The pressure is undoubtedly on Cardiff. barrycowdrill Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Their GD is another point plus their run is considerably easier than ours. We’d have to win 8/10 inc at their place I reckon and hope they lose 3 (inc our game) and maybe draw 1? it ain’t happening. They may falter but I don’t think we have enough consistency performance wise to make up the ground. We’ll have at least another 2 draws and a defeat somewhere in the run in. Maybe finish about 7 behind them. also highly possible they could pretty much confirm promotion when we go there Quote
boltonboris Posted March 11 Posted March 11 All we have to do is keep chasing. If 2nd doesn’t happen, which is probably won’t. Get 3rd place with a good strong finish and carry the form into the playoffs with us. Last playoff campaign was on the back of patchy / poor form as a result of 2nd place being out of reach. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself. Quote
noxid Posted March 11 Posted March 11 (edited) It ain't over until it's over. Win the next four and then lets see where we stand Edited March 11 by noxid Quote

wakey Posted March 11 Posted March 11 A long way to go before worrying about goal difference, but to make up the points gap realistically we have to beat them at their place, get 2 wins versus them getting 2 defeats (and match the other results points-wise). Just getting that by the minimum goal swing is +6 in our favour. The gap is currently 13. It would be ace going into the last week or two fretting about GD tbh. Quote

If we close the gap by even 3 points, we go there with a chance to keep it alive going into the last 2 games. On the other hand, if we lose a couple it will all be over before we even go to Cardiff. paulhanley Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Closing a nine point gap with 10 games to go is a massive ask. Is it impossible? Not quite. It is just very marginally possible. But the window of opportunity is so narrow, we have to keep relentlessly winning. if Cardiff drop any points and the gap gets down to 5 that is when their nerve will be tested. But even then we need to keep on winning. If over the next five games Cardiff pick up the two points per game they have been doing all season then we can forget it. We would need to win all 10 of our remaining games. Quote

Alternatively if they repeat there current form over last 4 games - its one point per game whereas ours over last 4 games is 2 points per game - Happy days !!!! Quote

We'd hope to win the next 3 (a given if we're going to make a go of it) which leaves us needing to win at Plymouth and Stockport. Not impossible. 15 points would put us 4 behind Cardiff and still to play them. Even 13 points would give us a chance as beating them would put us 3 behind. Quote

Ifs and buts. One thing for sure, unless we keep relentlessly winning there is no hope of automatic promotion. Quote
