Wycombe Wanderers (H)

Has this been cancelled or something? - can’t see a thread for our next game on Saturday. If there is one please merge.

Anyhoo, it’s a tough one but we’re at home. All of a sudden, they are 2 points off the playoffs and have a game in hand on Huddersfield in 6th so there’s no way they won’t be fired up for this. They’ve been scoring for fun at home this last month, less so away but they have players all over the park that can find the net including Mr Morley, formerly of this parish.

They must be thinking playoffs in which case they need something off us…..but we’re not going to give them anything are we?

Scoring goals so late so regularly isn’t luck. It’s belief in themselves and a reluctance to accept defeat. In part by the fact that opposition are just absolutely fucked at the end and also that neve

Crikey.

The Morley factor alone is a worry.

Time for the stiff upper lip. I’ll never be worried by Wycombe

I'm worried by everyone at the moment.

We keep playing teams in decent form.

Reading, Lincoln and even Exeter were doing OK, and had impressed SS.

I'll take a 3 goal win! 😀

Correct, but by Christ we've drawn too many.

If we'd lost them we'd be even further away from top 2.

We've got draws from losing positions 8 times.  I'd say that's a positive, probably the best we've done in years.

In previous seasons going behind usually meant we lost.

Wycombe are in decent form but they've only won 3 away to date, at Wigan, Northampton and Barnsley all by 1 goal.  Only 3 teams have scored less away.

I'm blind

Not often I’m completely confident going in to a game but I’ve got faith we’re going to fly with this one.

Cardiff to beat Lincoln and all of a sudden 7 points doesn’t look insurmountable.

Yep, but with us now playing and looking like scoring right up to the last whistle these draws look like two points lost rather than a point gained.

Alternatively, that's why we grabbed those draws from losing positions.

Main issue is missing so many of those chances, so that we're relying on those late goals.

Weirdly I’d rather chase Cardiff now. I think it’s the playing them that is swinging it. I’ll chase whoever if I am honest

Yeah I suppose it would technically put it further in to our hands as we can take points off Cardiff so happy to go along with that. Basically just want them to avoid a draw.

If Cardiff or Lincoln win, three points are dropped by the teams above us. If they draw, four points are dropped. A draw is the best result for us.

Although we only need to catch one of the two above. So it’s better for one to capitulate and come back closer, quicker.

Let’s be honest though, neither will capitulate.

The problem being, we don’t who (if either) will have a poor run. Therefore, at this moment in time, it’s better that both drop a couple of points (and, of course, that we win).

Especially with a long trip midweek for Lincoln, followed by Stockport and Huddersfield next week too.

I'd prefer a Cardiff - Lincoln draw meaning we " should " pick up 2 points on both them & giving us the outside chance of one of two teams slipping up rather than depending on one.

They have to lose three out of them 4 and we win our three. That would put us 4 points behind them on same games played

A nervy 4-2 victory.

Lincoln to beat Cardiff,   surely thats the result we want with us having to play in welsh Wales.

Yes, agreed.

The only times we've taken the lead and failed to win were Reading home (which was definitely 2 points dropped, deserved to win easily), and Luton where a draw with 10 men was fair enough.

All our other draws have either been positive (come from behind) or just where we didn't deserve to score (three 0-0s).  If we've had too many draws, its just because we haven't been good enough, we've only been unlucky in one.

What about Blackpool at home and Wycombe away

We played well for an hour v Blackpool, by the end we were hanging on for a draw, it was us defending after we'd equalised and when Burstow scored it wasn't like it was coming, it was a surprise goal after we'd lost our way. If your losing around the 80th minute most teams would take a draw and we managed that, not saying it was a point gained by any stretch but it was all we deserved in the end.

Lost at Wycombe, was just discussing too many draws.

yeh, let Lincoln thump them. that would be two defeats in 3 games for the taffs. An unexpected defeat before we play them then means a win for us really gets their daffodils wilting

Without checking I'd say we had so many late shows under Evatt

Though they may just have been winners regardless of who took the lead or if it was 0-0

Be interesting to see points earned from losing positions under both

Whilst I've accepted a playoff situation the little chance we have of auto's are by catching Cardiff.

If folk are getting ahead of themselves and still talking about automatic promotion- which would basically require us to beat most of the top teams in the toughest run in of any side - they must surely expect us to win this game comfortably.
I hope for that to happen but I sure as hell don’t expect it. We have to perform at our best every time and so far we haven’t shown that level of consistency.
As SS himself says, one game at a time, one performance at a time - and we’ll see where it takes us.
