glossopWANDERER Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 On this preformance no where near good enough to compeate with the big boys of the CL. And we wont be until we we get an owner who is willing to plough money in to the club ill settle for a uefa cup team over the next few years. they have been french league champions for 6 seasons this match is as hard as coming up against man united or chelsea on curent european standings.
Guest The Special One Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 We should of at least given them a game Oh dear Jussi.tut tut Samuel had a shocker second half, got walzted around far too easy and Sinclair isn't back up for Hunt................fact
gazanders Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 But what you have to think of is that the likes on man u and lyon etc give you time on the ball. i just dont think that our defence is confident on the ball all the top teams seems to have players who are that could be a major difference.
Piemon Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 i havent watched the game BUT from what ive read on here and another match thread we were shite! Its Pre season and we have played ok in the games that i watched (the first one and Racing) and we have added to our squad from last season. onwards and upwards
morphus77 Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 No need to Panic yet. New systems are still being tried. there were some positives - Jussi, Cid and Vaz Te. We need Jussi to sign a new contract.

New systems are still being tried. there were some positives - Jussi, Cid and Vaz Te.We need Jussi to sign a new contract. vaz te through he dived at least twice? our fullbacks were off today hunt as usual samuel got caught out a few times, how we cant offer jussi a new deal he is after ill never know, kept us in it until his fumble
Burndens Bogs Posted July 21, 2007 Author Posted July 21, 2007 We improved second half, but created very few chances. Jussi kept us in it with a great double save - only to let a tame effort roll under his body for Lyons goal on 86 mins.
bwfc2003 Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Got to offer Jussi a new deal - he kept us in it until his unfortunate error - and his kickings improved!!!!!

Jussi kept us in it with a great double save - only to let a tame effort roll under his body for Lyons goal on 86 mins. Isn't that typical Jussi and the main reason he's playing for us and not a top team? Lyon were missing their 2 main midfielders from last season in Tiago and Juninho, we gave them way too much respect.
Mounts Kipper Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 no team outside champs league could cope with Lyon, they have won the french league 6 on the bounce and by 20 points last year, I think LSL will have learnt more today about his team than in any other game, the negatives are hunt and samuel are not good enough, we need more pace in midfield a creative midfielder and a replacement for anelka because I am sure he will not be here come winter transfer window latest, positives were Cid did o.k. and we have diouf and faye to come back and we will only play teams as good as Lyon 4 times a season.
Burndens Bogs Posted July 21, 2007 Author Posted July 21, 2007 Admittedly JLloyd got skinned a coupla times, but he was up against Sydney Govou - one of the best wide men in Europe imo.
White79 Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 (edited) We were shite, Lyon looked far the better team. Did they field the same side against Reading? Edited July 21, 2007 by White79

bolty58 Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Examine the facts. We got to the final and great clubs like River Plate couldn't. We lost 1-0 to a great Champions League side in Lyon who have dominated the French league in recent years. It's only a pre season tuornament FFS. I for one won't be slashing my wrists. If anyone on here thinks we will ever compete with the big four they belong in mental institution. Little Bolton in the top 8 or 10 of the EPL each year will do me fine. Throw in a couple of Carling Cup wins and I would be ecstatic. Interesting season ahead. 1 or 2 more signings yet?

Quel horreur ! We lost to the 6-times French champions 0-1 and FFS ..... they looked better than us ! Thanks for putting it in context, Bolty. Great pre-season workout and lessons being learned. Will do for me.

jules_darby Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 Alright so it wasn't an inspiring display, but it's the first phase of our pre-season games - we're not supposed to be ready for the season just yet. Biggest concern for me is defence - seem to be missing a leader at the back who can communicate well - Meite and Cid could well be alreet together but they need experience as a pair. How bad was the award ceremony after??!
TotalBelief2024 Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Wasn't great but put it into context. A good Lyon side, and we are still fiddling with the team. Jussi - World Class Hunt - Laughable again. Samuel - Snail paced Given that we had severl of the first XI not involved, I am not concerned. We neevr do well pre-season so forget results, it is what we gain from these games in terms of fitness etc that are more important. Those people moaning that we won't be a CL team until we get huge investement????? Who ever said otherwise. And who says money will get you CL. Do you think Villa, Pompey, City, West Ham etc all get CL next year. Do the maths. Let us see how Sammy does with HIS team this season. And who was the joker on Setanta? Kevin Nolan was called Kevin Davies about 8 times. And Spackman said Nolan would be looking forward to his first European campaign this season.

Given what I saw in the previous matches, I thought he fielded one of the best sides available. I know that Lyon were playing in the same stadium, but you have to understand we were playing in nearly 100% humidity at around 28 degrees against the French top-boys. An hour after the match I had my picture taken in Jussi's top and it was still ringing - he was the GK FFS! I think Sammy Lee has made some very shrewd signings pre-season so far. They appear to have settled in with the team a lot quicker than many previous signings. Not sure how it has come out on TV, but I rate Sinclair and McCann.

Traf Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Isn't that typical Jussi and the main reason he's playing for us and not a top team? Absolutely spot on, mate.
