Did we create 4 or 5 decent chances - yes; in the second half our approach play was alright for a good period.

Davies certainly wasn't immense, but he was alright and he did win a few headers and was constantly being fouled. If you'd rather play Rasiak then you're dumber than I gave you credit for

I must be watching a different game then, okay he didn't win that many headers, but he did other things. For the 1st 20 minutes of the second half when we were on top everything went through him, and to say he was average again?

For me he has definitely got his form back. As for replacing him with Rasiak, I was impressed with Rasiak, but swap him for Davies, don't be daft.

Rasiak looks like a box player, get it in there and he will score some

Rasiak. Can't even stay onside when there are three defenders within 6 feet of him running towards goal. Basic stuff but he shows real promise. Superb assist from Davis.

When Davis can't run anymore, can't win the ball in the air 8/10, can't stand up against almost every defender in the premiership and no longer gives a sh!te then we drop him. Until then..... he stays top of the team sheet!

Bloody Hell, the reason for the thread was based on how teams have gotten wise to the Davies upfront factor, as shown on sunday when Blackburn put two men on him and he won virtually nothing. However, this season I had also noticed he was slower (Davies doesn't run because he can't), not winning as many headers, and link that with his poor passing, even though he is fouled alot against, he gives away too many clumsy fouls, it was obvious a change upfront was needed. Megson missed the boat when he should have played the young lad (Obadeyi) in the FA Cup tie with sheff Utd, this lad is class, but than again, one bad game and most of you on here would slag the lad off, call him lazy etc etc, just as some on here do/did with Anelka. A striker is there to score goals, simple as that, he can work as hard as anyone, but if he doesn't put the ball in the back of the net, he should be replaced with someone who can.

Oh and Megson 4-4-2!

The clubs incompetence in failing to correctly plan for the 3 month period prior to the Anelka departure to find a suitable replacement may be catastrophic in terms of our survival. I dont think this is the fault of Davies, Obadeyi or the fans. If we get relegated that will be the clubs failure and we can all slag off Gartside with some justification.

surely if he has 2 defenders on him then it's an even bigger reason to keep him. It takes a defender off one of the other players especially if we played with the extra midfielder.

You must have been watching different games to me, as Davies has looked quicker in the last few months - he's been beating full-backs for pace regularly.

If teams double mark Davies, the answer is that we will have a spare man elsewhere - this is when we can stretch teams by manipulating that space - Steinesson (although poor at Blackburn) has been a fine exponent of that by overlapping.

Dont know that Rasiak is the man to get us out of this mess

but something has to be done. Five times people on here have said"Move on"

but we are running out of games. Out of the 11 games we have left IMO only

3 wins will come from them and 3 draws that will only give us 37 points.

Might be enough but i for one do not want to be going to Barnsley and Blackpool

next season.

Sort it megson before it to Late. :bang:

I swear, if one more person suggests Vaz Te should get a game I think I will totally lose faith in the Bolton public. Time and time again Allardyce gave the lad a chance and he proved time and time again that he simply wasn't good enough to last more than 20 minutes at the top level.

Time and time again Allardyce gave him 5 min

Hang on a moment here!

You are NOT offside if the pass is not a forward one... i.e. pulling the ball back is fine.

Rasiak did EXACTLY the right thing in my opinion... he didn't stay in line with the defenders, he stayed in line with the ball [ and Davies ] . . . therefore the goal was not offside and he deserves a lot of credit. The linesman [ like the referee ] deserves NONE!

But the pass did go forward didn't it?? And he was in front of Davis....... Maybe I had mi Stella goggles on.

Can someone please define then, what a player needs to have done to be considered to have "had enough chances" to prove himself good enough?

Vaz Te......has he ever had a consistent duration in the squad?

Braaten....he gets slagged off at all opportunities, yet how many starts, how many consistent games, and has scored this season?

Cohen....Runs around like a headless chicken trying to get sent off....sounds like Davies to me.

Al Habsi...How many chances has he had to prove himself?

Obadeyi...At least is scoring goals, if he was at the Massives, he'd have had a chance in the first team by now.

Point being, it is VERY rare for a player to make an instant impression in a side (apart from Cahill and Steinsson), and when you are a young or foreign payer, you need consistent games to adapt (Hierro was awful first couple of matches for us, Davies when he first came looked overweight and terrible). If they are not getting starts, it is up to the management to keep the enthusiastic and fresh.

Now back to the thread, Davies consistently gets matches, has scored 2 Goals this season, and he can't run (the fool who said he seems to have some pace this year is diluding himself), he dives into tackles and has 81 bookings this season, his passing is woeful, and this season especially (and not his fault), all teams put two men on him, and that nullifies us upfront. It needs freshening up, and it needs someone who can run at defences and actually scores some goals, you cannot rely on your top goal scorer being a midfield player.

11 Matches left, and you cannot guarantee that you can defend all these matches and not concede. I can say that Wigan, Birmingham, Sunderland will win matches by playing 4-4-2 and attacking, playing 4-5-1 will not.

Drop Davies, play Rasiak and Diouf/Stelios/Vaz Te/Helguson (if fit) whomever as a front two, midfield of Campo, Nolan,Guthrie and Diouf/Stelios/Vaz Te/Gardner/O'Brien defence of Steinsson, Cahill, O'Brien, Samuel, goalkeeper Jussi/Al Habsi. We will have a more mobile front two with a midfield and defence that has improved a hell of alot this season.

why not davies and another upfront ? as you say he takes two men out of the game so surely opens up space for the other forward ?

on the one hand you want to drop davies and point out he can not run...i disagree...but whatever....on the other you want to play campo in a midfield 4.

on this basis you think campo can run.

i actually agree that teams have our plan A sussed out and we need a plan B, it is just that changing things to soemthing that may not be better is not the solution, if you think changing to attacking free flowing football is the way out of the mess we are in i suggest you ring directory enquiries and ask for Lee, first name Samuel.

I think we should move Diouf up and play 4-4-2 but alongside Davies

I wouldn't put Helguson, Rasiak or Vaz Te in the team at Davies' expense

Davies would work fine if we played 4-4-2 with Diouf playing off him

agreed we looked a lot more dangerous with rasiak up with kev in the second half at blackburn

only a combination of campo giving the ball away with a stupid pass (which hes bin doing to much recently) and a rare missed timed tackle from gary super cahill stopped the 1 way traffic in the second half.

Not seen enough of him to make my mind up yet.

Al Habsi...How many chances has he had to prove himself?

He'll not make the first team while we still have Jussi. At least he's replaced Walker as 2nd choice keeper.

Obadeyi...At least is scoring goals, if he was at the Massives, he'd have had a chance in the first team by now.

that's why

he's had chances

he's just been sh?te

imo campo and davies SHOULD be in the team this season, but only because we have nobody better (but the same is for the whole starting xi obviously)

but next season, if we are to improve these are key area's that need strengthening.

and if campo and davies are casualties then so be it.
