bolty58 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Nothing could ever come close to 78. Some of us managed to see the game from three different ends/sides that neet I'd like to call it over exuberance
Ashey Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I enjoyed the 1978 promotion game most, out of the three, in all honesty
Gaz Nt Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) The 1-0 for me.The buzz when them fuckers were all wakling past the fernhust and getting it both barrels was tip top, Yes that were quality! And then the Wanderers team coach came past and everyone started chanting!! God i can't contain my excitement for next Weds!! Come On You Whites!!!!!!!!! Oh and for me it was the 3-4 as i was -9 for the 0-1 1978 game Edited January 22, 2009 by Gaz Nt
Ani Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 FACT indeed The flip side, though, is that we will die before them aye but we will die happy.
Pea-Lad Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Great topic! 2004 just pipped it for me. Thought we were going to lose it and Youri's goal just before half-time gave us some hope. Brilliant game. I was -5 in 78.
Traf Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Missed all three, so I am out. Just pretend you went to all 3, loads of others will!
Fengshui Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 There was a good un a couple of years back ,when Diouff dived and got a penalty and we won 1-0. I voted for the 2006 game. I was -3 in '78.
Bigtoe Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I'll vote for 78 too. As a 2 year old, and part of the little known Bolton Baby squad, we took Blackburn that day, OB nowhere to be seen. We used our nappies as slingshots firing turd missiles into their end.
Guest Biff Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Best game v Blackburn. 1958 FA Cup semi final at Maine Road.
Eddie Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Best game v Blackburn. 1958 FA Cup semi final at Maine Road. Ralph Gubbins with the 2 winning goals?? I've been on holiday with the legend himself
Guest Biff Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Ralph Gubbins with the 2 winning goals?? I've been on holiday with the legend himself Yes, Ralph was stand in for Nat that day.
Boby Brno Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Its a bit unfair to have a poll for 3 matches so far apart as many of the posters on here were too young for the 1978 match. As someone who went to all 3 (honestly) there really is no comparison. The importance of that match in 78 and the build up to the game over the previous days was unique, bearing in mind the previous two seasons failed attempts at promotion. The events that night will never be repeated. If there was one match that I could re-live it would be that night in Blackburn in 1978! The day after, I contacted the Daily Express and bought the copy of the photo of Frank Worthington scoring the winner. The picture has been on display either at home or work in some form or another for 31 years1

The picture has been on display either at home or work in some form or another for 31 years1 I was 10 in 1978 so memories are a bit hazy but it was a special night. I mostly remember walking back to the car after the match, just a sea of Bolton singing and celebrating. I also remember the ground being jam packed and people stood on that hill between the stands watching for free. My dad couldn't take me but a Blackburn mate of his (season ticket holder)when he heard said you can't let a Bolton fan miss a match like this and he came over from Darwen and took me. Always be grateful for that. Also remember the next home game v Fulham, pitch invasion, 'Big Sam Eats Craven Cottage Pie' and 'We are the Champions' baring out from the tannoy. Happy days. P.S. Does anyone else remember the commemorative Promotion jigsaw issued by the BEN. It came in a cylindrical tin and had the team photo on one side and the front page of the BEN when we won promotion on the other. 'Back Where We Belong'. Found mine the other day in a clear out.

Rembrandt Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Best game v Blackburn. 1958 FA Cup semi final at Maine Road. Beat me to it, Biff ! Does Maine Road count as an away game ? Only got a ticket through an uncle's mates. '78 was special. Didn't have much money so day off work, bus from London to Blackburn, on terrace opposite main stand from very eary evening along with Rovers fans as well as thousands of Whites fans, overnight bus back to London, then into work asap the day after. Crazy !
