Remember it well - brought about a change in the rules, if I remember correctly

Yep I remember it well. The scorers name was Ernie Hunt, at the time they didnt think it was legal because the ball was not played to a team mate but instead was flicked up for Hunt to volley home.

I think the problem was that the ball didn't move forwards or backwards and didn't rotate a full revolution or summat? :pardon:

Anyrurd, it was "outlawed" after this goal - so it'll never happen again.

It was because he played it with both feet, still great volley.

Had that goal on an old Xmas VHS...101 great goals or such-like

Used to practice it in my lounge with a sponge ball as a kid, but used to flick it up to myself and using the patio windows as a goal with the curtain rail as the cross-bar

Only got away with it when the folks were out though due to my Mam's Royal Doulton figures taking a battering

Happy days :good:

I think the rule stated that the ball had to roll is full circumference before it was in play.

I'm old enough, like everyone spent the whole of the summer trying to copy it.

Think it was Willie Carr who took the free kick, looks a bit like Strachan, but think he was only the manager at Coventry and never played for them.

yes

tis true

i thought it was becuase they decided one foot must leave the ball fractionally before the other so was deemed a double touch.

You let them into a civilised country and look how they behave.

Was the last time they won away?

They beat us at Wembley in the 2nd leg of the Euro 2000 play offs, 1-0. In fairness I dont think I've seen any away support celebrate a goal like they did.

We'd already took the piss up in Glasgow the weekend before and won 2-0. Went up there on one of Hartleys coaches, a tad concerned. Needn't have, when 200 of us got off outside Hampden and walked into town at 10am it was like going to Bury or Wigan, a few mouthy kids and the odd irate Celtic spud, but fuck all else.
