Mine was a Y reg Mini City 1000cc (London Bus Red), bought in 1988.

 

Remember getting a ton out of it on the M62 to Liverpool (downhill stretch) 10 secs before breaking down and spending 4 hrs on the hard shoulder.

The 1.3L and 1.6L models were ok, but mine was the 1 litre version, underpowered and ridiculously heavy on fuel.

 

I had it for a couple of years, but decided to get rid after being overtaken on a hill outside Rochdale by a Reliant Robin.

Th'owd chap gave me a BMW2002tii. My initial excitement was tempered after one drive to Chester and I fooked it off immediately and got a 1300cc Cortina. The beamer could drink petrol faster than I could earn the required money!

Nice motor Bolty and sought after today, I'd willingly trade my 323i convertible for a 2002tii these days, far more entertaining and less nanny state electronicery!

 

Mine was a 1968 Morris 1000 traveller, NDL 200G, soon after receiving a Fiat 2 litre twincam, 5 speed box and 'tina 2 rear axle and propshaft.

 

Unfortunately I kept the old drum brakes which didn't go down too well when I managed to flip it on a kerb on Crabtree Lane.......

 

Ah well, you (fortunately) live and learn!

 

Plenty of modded classics and 'hotrods' down the road I got sensible and went the German way.....

I bought a classic straight after passing my test at 17 in Aug 1978 from the Bolton Car Auctions behind the Little Theatre.

 

With ?80 in my pocket my first car was a 1968 Triumph Herald 1360 G reg. Great car but didn't like to go round corners too fast and it finally died when I blew the engine up.

I loved the old dashboard made out of wood unlike today's plastic shite.

Passed at 17 in 98, got myself a E reg astra 1.4 thought it was cool as it had the chequered seats from the GTE, soon upgraded to a Rover 214 SLi had loads of cars since, MK 4 Golfs being my favourites, at present driving an Audi S3

Peugeot 205 I had in 98' even went as fas as trying to kit it out like GTI, looking back wish I hadnt......

Mazda 323 lxi. Given to me by my late Grandfather a fortnight after passing my test. One of the proudest moments of my life when he gave me those keys! Ran like a dream and was totally reliable, until my mate wrapped it around a tree while I was away travelling!

In 1989 I took delivery of a 10 year old Yellow Ford Fiesta 1.3. Had all the extras (bucket seats, spotlights, mudguards, etc). It looked a proper boy racer car. It was T-reg and the bodywork under the fancy add-ons bore testament to that - my dad found the wings packed with cereal boxes and sprayed over! Car was probably a death trap.

 

Got nicked from back of River Street. Glad in the end.

I have something similar now. Though, it's only my chassis that's gone, the Beetle's is fine.

 

Anyhow, mine was a red mini. It wor ace. Velour seats with embroidered stuff on and evrifin.

Ford Capri Mk2. Bloody loved that car!

A white mini L Reg the first time round. Bought it for ?250, before I'd had lessons. Painted a big black stripe down it, then sold it to a neighbour for ?50 quid about 18 months later with a seized engine having done zero miles in it.

My first car was a white mk1 Fiesta that strangely started life as a van and was then converted to a hatch. Needless to say no insurance company would touch it with a barge pole. Only paid ?25 for it though and made 50 quid by scrapping it and claiming back the 2 months tax left on it!

 

First car I actually drove was my mums before I wrapped it round a tree - a Renault 11, hideous car inside and out and drove even worse...
