I've got a feeling an alarm'll go off in a QI stylee but I'm going to say: A fish & potato patty coated with breadcrumbs with some fried potatoes.

It's a roll in Scotland too.

If you're ordering a chip barm in a Glasgow chippy, make sure you ask for a buttered roll & chips or the wierdos don't put butter on.

They deep fry pies, mars bars & pizza though

Must be an age thing this, for those of us who remember shopping before multi national supermarkets came to being, every thing was bought from local

bakers,butchers and greengrocers.

i have no idea why anyone would want anything battered other than fish?

even sausage is a bit random, it doesnt need batter, it has a skin to keep the meat in.

My mate tried battered kebab meat in Scotland

He said the grease was dripping down his chin

It's a flour cake !!!!

At last - a true Bowtner!

I used to work in Huddersfield and those hillbillies call em teacakes. Same question I asked of them - 'What about one with fruit in then?' 'Currant teacake'.

Yorkies are fooking weird.

Do you all admit defeat? As Bolty says they are strange over here.

just looked it up and thats the fishcake i was brought up on

none of this mash shite

A fish cake in rural Bedfordshire is pretty much a load of mashed up fish bits in breadcrumbs,I think they're rank, but Mrs CWP loves 'em. Having said that she likes saveloys as well, and they are rank on a whole new level

Is it fish between 2 slices of potato dipped in batter?

Morris on Highfield Rd, Farnworth was a Yorkie and that's how his fishcakes were in the 80's.

the scallop is known as a cake over here.

a fish is a fish

and chips are chips

so fishcake and chips = scallop, fish and chips.
