hughmungus Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 With all the players leaving and the now obvious need for replacements do you think it was the wisest decision to jet off on a tour when OC might have been better here behind his desk. We know that the world is a smaller place with interweb etc but it just seems that we are in for a mass panic in next few weeks which could result in Jardel type buys, I hope I'm wrong mind.
MickyD Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 This has been discussed at length elsewhere. OC has said that, should he be required to be at his desk, he'll be on the next available flight home. When you've a bottomless pit of cash, you can do these things.
SpiritofBurnden Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Not enough threads on the lack of transfer activity then?
tylswhite Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 The tour of the USA was pointless from a fitness point of view imo. What did we do in the USA we couldnt of done in europe? Im sure most of us on here know what it is like flying across timezones etc and it does fuck you up whether your a finely tuned athlete or a fat bastard. As for the point it may detract from us signing any players that is just utter stupidity. Anybody who believes it wants their head testing. If OC was needed back here to complete a deal he would of been here in a shot.
hughmungus Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 Was just a question more about having to travel to the other side of the pond for a few games when it could all have been done closer to home so that we aren't all wasting time speculating and hoping we are going to do something positive before the fun begins.
HomerJay Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) without knowing the actually process involved in search and signing players, im not sure anybody can suggest whether its a good or bad thing Edited July 22, 2011 by HomerJay

What do you care? You said you were never going again after the Stoke game.
frank_spencer Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 The trip was all about marketing and getting the players away from the day to day. Ok they could've spent 2/3 weeks in llandudno. Players these days fly all over the world for internationals etc so 2 flights over 2 weeks is hardly crippling. If it was so detrimental why have nigh on every premier league club fucked off to every corner of the globe. Fer fuck sake folk will moan about anything.
superjohnmcginlay Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 the whole idea Owen should be behind a desk is fucking bollocks
hughmungus Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) What do you care? You said you were never going again after the Stoke game. And still haven't renewed my st, unless we sign Sturridge, a new Frankie Worthy and the seats are lined in dolphin skin then I might think about it. But afraid there has been nothing done to make me want to return, but like many it's in the blood and I live in hope. Edited July 22, 2011 by hughmungus

Anyway, wghat good is marketing that we'll see very little from when there is the immediate need for survival, which requires: 1) Extreme focus on fitness 2) Extreme focus on the squad It's about priorities Other teams may well go and do it, but seeing the contract situations for our squad, I believe it was the wrong decision Anyway, it's all been done elsewhere on here......
Guest Blixa Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 No, we should have had them running up Rivvy in the rain instead, then letting them go out on the piss with their mates in the evening to pack in back on. Just like we did in the 90s.
Casino Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 If it was so detrimental why have nigh on every premier league club fucked off to every corner of the globe. i can tell you why city, chelsea, arsenal united and liverpool would do it beyond them, i dunno you tell me

Horwich Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 OC is in todays paper saying "the food is good, the language is no problem and the facilities are second to none" 4th season in a row he has gone there

His office must be massive then, having to conduct training sessions from behind his desk.

frank_spencer Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 That's this weeks "missed the point" award winner. I'd say the point of the thread has that sewn up
Rembrandt Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 I'd say the point of the thread has that sewn up Judging from the reactions on here, it's all coming unstitched.
Sweep Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 He would be better with one of these I reckon, then he could drive it between grounds whilst scouting. There is also plenty of room for other staff members as well.
hughmungus Posted July 22, 2011 Author Posted July 22, 2011 That's it unless he comes back in next 15 mins and signs Ronaldo, Messi and Henrk Pederson I'm never setting foot in the San Reebok again, ever, never ever, full stop, for good or anytime soon.
anewman Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 the only reason they went there was to stop normal fans following and supporting, they only want well off stuck up prick type fans to be there who can afford it
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 I think it was neither detrimental or productive, same as most pre-seasons. All it does is warm the players up for the season whether you play Orlando or Queeen of the South. As for stopping fans going, most (not all) fans ignore pre-season anyways - I don't think that's a valid point. See Jules, different day and I don't have my d**khead hat on today
Globetrotter Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 I am not sure that OC being in the US of A makes much difference at all. I thought I read the other day that Gartside has been in Spain discussing the potential deals for the Barca players. Is that not the way it works? Manager / Coach with his players while the execs discuss the deals. I don't think BSA flew out to kick off the Taylor deal and I am sure deals are being done at other clubs who are touring far away parts ... If and when a deal needs the famous OC grin to clinch it, I am sure he will be on the first plane back.
