Guest Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 If they're good enough, then yes, fine ... but let's only do it if that is the case rather than (as Carlos has said) just to prove a point. I'd guess that there're very few who are yet good enough though. The point is that we, most likely, will never know, because hardly anyone ever gets the opportunity. Are they good enough, are they not good enough? You can't tell unless they are given a chance. Quote
Traf Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 1. How do you sell rubbish? 2. Passion alone isn't enough. We're all pretty passionate about the club on here, but we'd make a shit football team. Quote
passmosster Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I'd guess that there're very few who are yet good enough though. Strong enough is the key. We have a very good crop of youngsters. But we haven't got many big lads or matured early types. Most of them need a season or two to strengthen up. Quote
DazBob Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 1. How do you sell rubbish? Price it at £1 and open a shop on Newport Street. Quote
Casino Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) The point is that we, most likely, will never know, because hardly anyone ever gets the opportunity. Are they good enough, are they not good enough? You can't tell unless they are given a chance. i'd guess that most of the available evidence would show that anything more than one lad a year making a mark in the first team is way above average seems cos united did it once, theres an expectation that others should who have united brought in recently...just fletcher, evans, wellbeck and cleverley? and thats in 10 years i know their standards are higher, but their kids are the cream, too i think its a myth that we can ever develop numerous kids good enough for our first team we'll see Edited January 3, 2013 by Casino Quote
stevieb Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Or we could lower the standard of the first team so the youth are good enough... Quote

Guest Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 If we never give them a chance, why bother with an Academy? Quote
Sweep Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 If we never give them a chance, why bother with an Academy? I think becuase if you do get a good 'un, then it makes it worth while - epsecially if you end up flogging them for several million quid in the future. Although we've not had many players come though, our situation isn't a lot different to that of many other clubs as Casino has alluded to above. I reckon though that in the future, we'll have to start looking at players from the academy, especially if we're not going to be enjoying lots of Sky money Quote

DazBob Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Whoa hold on is this a fact if so you should be ashamed of yourself It was a question, not a fact I could only think of two but seeing as we always do it there must be many more that I can't remember... Quote

Mounts Kipper Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) http://www.thebolton..._medium=twitter He was lively at our place, happy with that I see he scored 4 against Brum in 19 minutes earlier this year and his goal rato at this last 2 clubs is excellent quick and strong and looks like a late developer. Take Hunt Off Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Big & mobile a real handful at our place , 19 goals 54 apps not prolific but better than what we've got IMO be a decent signing (another Davies) Quote
