Casino Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Fernández has just shown massive talent and bottle to win that but there's every chance the winner of the us open comes from the raducanu match Quote
jayjayoghani Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Yep she's the real deal, amazing display, completely nerveless. Quote

Spider Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 I mean, tennis is shite But that’s magnificent Quote
Spider Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 I see the subject of her “roots” is getting more press than the fact she’s just got to the final of a major tournament with (GBR) next to her name. What a time to be alive. Quote
Jol_BWFC Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 An amazing achievement. Hopefully she smashes it in the final. I wonder if the lack of crowds have helped her in particular, given she had a panic attack in front of the crowds at Wimbledon? She’s also just bagged $1.25m for 3 weeks’ work. That’s almost as much as Jules earns. ps, she’s more British than Bolty. Quote

What a time to be alive. Both finalists were born in Canada but now live elsewhere, both have fathers from a different country and both have a touch of the East on their maternal side (LF has a Filipino grandparent). Fernandez, in the last 4 rounds, has beaten Osaka, Kerber, Svitolina and Sabalenka. Raducanu has come through 3 rounds of qualifying plus 6 rounds in the tournament proper with dropping a set, or even being taken to a tiebreak as she has broken every opponent in every set. Raducanu started at her secondary school just as Dina Asher-Smith had left it. Quote
Not in Crawley Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Well, I hadn't a clue about Bromley Tennis Centre but looks a decent place. Newstead Wood School sounds like my kids all-girls grammar. They seem to love a selective state school down here. Quote

ErnestTurnip Posted September 10, 2021 Posted September 10, 2021 Having a complete blonde moment here, is there a tennis equivalent to kick off/face off/bully off/tip off/tee off ? Quote

I don't agree with the system, its utterly flawed. Its just Kent still has the 11-plus. Two of mine wanted to take it and passed, the third doesn't want to take it, has no interested and will be going to the high school. No issues from me. Getting in has also bog all to do with academic ability, its just coaching the kids through, esp with the verbal and non verbal reasoning bits. Its like learning how to play a game. Quote
