British when he wins, Scottish when he loses

Couldn't be less interested in this bloke but fair play - impressive to fight back from that. Wish him well but no need for me to hear about it. No doubt he's an SNP-er?

Not in the top 100 British sportspersons for me.

Sports persons he's up there. Sports personality; meh!

Sports personality is a misnomer, its all about what you achieve and your character.

Murray has always displayed immense character on the court and this comeback is quite something.

Personality - Murray is basically perfect - his will to win and character are part of a sports personality that sets him apart from most British sportspeople down the years.

He's not there to tell jokes but to be as good at tennis as he can be. He inspires loads of people.

Could it have been a tennis ball in his pocket?

BD started it in the rugby thread...

Jonny Wilkinson is the best British sportsman of this century. The opposition described him as freakishly good, praise like that in tennis is reserved for Nadal on clay and Federer at his best.

He also had some injuries and was a pleasant personality

he has, since retiring, spoken about his mental health issues resulting from his obsessional nature.

Jonny Wilkinson practicing conversions from tryline. Something he'd never have to do in a game.

Bear in mind this is after he's retired

I think I would agree with you. Not just Britains best but up there in the mix in world terms.

  • 5 weeks later...

Into semis of Davis Cup (without fielding AMurray in last two rounds).

So Evans won

Well done him

Big win, that

  • 2 months later...

I’ve just watched Federer save 7 match points and still go on and win.
There aren’t enough superlatives for that man.

Nowt left in the tank for the Djokovic semi-final then

Dominic Thiem is  becoming the new Andy Murray, reached 3 major finals lost them all

Done brilliantly, hasn't she?

Incredible really, she has just become British number one as well. Amazing performance!

Tennis machine, she has analysed everything and used her obviously advanced psychomotor skills to beat her opponents.

Lets see if she can do the creativity bit as well.

Secretly hoping...

If not, she should come and coach our lot on corners

Talk about rapid improvement! She seems a real talent, good luck to her.

She was number 5 just by picking a racquet up.

Aye, she hasn’t wasted much time getting above Konta though.

Local lass, people are most proud round here.

Are we having her as British?

No, most definitely not.

English, yes.
