I'd say it isn't the lack of socialising, more the sat simulating killing folk for long periods of time. I've no idea if there is a proven correlation to mentalist acts but I don't think it's healthy and certainly not what under 18s should be doing.

 

In my completely unprofessional opinion, I'd reckon 'sat killing folk for long periods of time' would have no adverse effect on anyone who is not already an mentalist.  On the other hand, if someone is/was already a mentalist I'd imagine it probably isn't the best pastime for them.

 

You'd have to have something already seriously wrong upstairs if playing violent games and/or watching violent filums made you view reality differently.

I think you're missing the point Daniel.

 

Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I reckon the vast majority of folk who play games like GTA do it because it's basically an interactive movie - yes, a pretty violent one, but nonetheless it's about a story. NB's right though, the storylines (of the ones I've played in the past) are certainly not the kind of ones that children should be getting involved in.

 

WRT things like playing Call of Duty online, I'd say the overwhelming majority of people who play see it as a game of skill, speed of reactions, etc.  I'd not say they saw it as 'killing people'.

 

Of course, they thought of sitting in front of a television with a controller in your hand is something many people just can't understand how it could be fun, but then again the same could be said about plenty of hobbies that other folk partake in.

 

I don't understand why so many folk have such an issue with these folk.  They're doing nobody any harm.

I don't have a problem with folk playing these kind of games, I do on occasion....but I've not got the time or inclination to get into exactly how to work the controls, and so I end up being really shit at it and then annoyed because I can't do it.

 

If folk want to sit in and play these computer games then I couldn't care less, hopefully they're doing other things in their life as well. The people I think are sad are those who queue up for days on end to get the game and then book time off work and lock themselves away for days on end playing the game until completion, in a single sitting.

Just played a couple of hours of it after work. Stopped for tea, but I can see how people could get absorbed into it. I probably won't jump on unless I have some time to kill.
