I can rattle off thousands of facts and no one would argue. Well, maybe you or Prof Cheese would. But all theory's are fancy guesses. And theories have come unstuck. Look, given the probabilities the big brains may well be correct. But we won't know for sure until Mork comes knocking. Theories are made up from facts Eg Newton knew that when he dropped an apple it fell to the ground That is a fact From that he came up with the the theory of gravity

"estimate or conclude (something) without sufficient information to be sure of being correct." So the opposite would be HAVING sufficient information. Very little, if anything, is considered a "fact" in science.
Moderators Zico Posted April 29 Moderators Share Posted April 29 But I agree to a degree If you want to believe in intelligent life as we know it living on other planets you may as well believe in god and heaven If you want to believe in life in any form existing somewhere then why not It probably does, but so what

Why do we care what shape the world is, or how long it takes us to orbit the sun? There's nowt we can do about any of it. But without our innate curiosity to study and understand such things, we wouldn't be typing these messages to each other.

It was observed. What science does is crunch the numbers and concluded stuff. A calculated guess then they give it a name. Little green men or organisms on other planets have never been observed. The available evidence says there might be life on Z112F but until we see it we won't know for sure.

If you look back to the reply you gave to my question. Did you not reply with guess? But hey-ho. It would be unfair of me to pursue your brain fart. Like you said earlier. I don't understand science. That is obvious. I can only dream about being on your scientific level, Prof. Cheese Hawking. I will pick my opponents on such matters with more care in future. To be fair the Sea of Tranquility would have been anything but if he'd have turned up. He'd have been chucked out before half time. History could have been different. Billions round the world tuning in to the most momentous announcement in human history. James Burke leading the BBC commentary - "are there he is, there he is. If I don't get this one it's a month till the next Lunar Module. And that'll probably be a replacement bus service, you know what them striking bastards at NASA are like. Come back; I'm touching cloth here and I've filled me space nappy as it is. Oh and look, some fucker's clamped the lunar rover for parking on a double yellow crater. kent_white
Dark energy might be getting weaker - which means we might end up with a 'big crunch' rather than an ever expanding universe. The jury is still out over whether this means we will have to watch the Stoke semi final in reverse. https://www.space.com/desi-cosmological-constant-dark-energy-history?mc_cid=4b6ede3a61&mc_eid=245b0dbe13
