SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Poor response, you seem to know how we play by watching. No, I know how we play by listening, sometimes watching, stats, and knowing how the game works. The last is something that a lot of people seem to not be able to grasp, possibly because their views are "skewed" by emotion at the game. Quote
gonzo Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 This ere argument re Spearing... Do we need just think he's taken more of a backseat/non glamourous role in midfield now thanks to the appearance of Mark Davies in the team? ie he's there now simply as a holding midfield player and his job is to just keep things ticking over Scott Parker style therefore staying in position and letting mark Davies do all the running further forward? Just a thought like Quote
Traf Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 No, I know how we play by knowing how the game works. You might not have intended it, but in English that comes across as sounding like a condescending twat. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt with this not being your native tongue and all that. Go figure. Quote

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt with this not being your native tongue and all that. Go figure. I guess it does, especially the way you've edited it. I didn't mean it in a condescending way. I'm just trying to say that just because I don't go to the games doesn't mean I don't know what's going on, and honestly it's frustrating to have people say "overseas, opinion invalid" all the time. Do the Math. I would never say that. Mathematics is plural for mathematic, and math is short for mathematic, not mathematics. Therefore, math is bollocks. I have these "discussions" with people here all the time. The worst is "I could care less". Quote

gonzo Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 Must admit things do get a bit skewed when you have 6 pints before the game and spend the first powdering your nose in the ESL smoking shelter. Quote

SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Their views are skewed by actually being there? I've heard it all now. Definitely. You take 2 identical games where both team cancel each other out (hypothetically speaking of course), and put one with a last minute winner for Bolton and one with a last minute winner for the opposition. Someone who's at the game will come away thinking that it was an excellent performance from the first game and a terrible performance from the second. We've had LOTS of the second case this season, where we've actually played well but the team has been slated because we've lost by one goal or let in an equaliser. That's my point. Quote
Carlos Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 It's a fair point, I thought we were poor against Forest. We created fuck all, our goal came from a set piece needlessly given away with another niggly foul. Forest could have beat us by 3 again, the save in the first half was save of the season, only to be bettered by the double save towards the end. No idea why Forest decided to take a point, we were decent for 10 minutes and they shit it. Loads of folk reckon we played well. Had a couple of Forest's chances gone in I don't think that'd be the case. Although as I was there, my view is skewed, obvs. Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Have we really? I certainly don't recall any such occasions at home, unless my naked eyes were deceiving me Quote
DazBob Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Of you're only listening to commentary then aren't you merely basing your opinions on someone else's skewed views? JAL. Quote
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Although as I was there, my view is skewed, obvs. Opinions can be skewed for a variety of reasons. Being there, you get into the match, into the emotion, and obviously you're more invested than someone listening from 7,000 miles away. That I won't ever deny. It's the same as the Knight hate. Facts are that, a couple of mistakes aside, he's not been bad since he's come back into the side. Still, people will pick on any mistake he makes because of a smile or two he exchanged with Stoke players 2 seasons ago. Quote
EyesRight Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 image.jpg That's like looking in the mirror for me. Quote
SnoopJohnnyJohn Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Of you're only listening to commentary then aren't you merely basing your opinions on someone else's skewed views? JAL. The main reason I never EVER listen to Jack Dearden. The commentators on Wanderers Player seem fairly neutral. One of them (not the main guy) has spoken about how he's a PNE fan. Obviously they're slightly biased towards Bolton, but they tend to call the game as it is. Quote
BOWTUN BAKED Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Call the game as it is??????? Dear god! Quote
