May 27, 201412 yr In my lifetime, it has to be Gazza but I also loved Peter Shilton and Trevor Steven! Odd choice really
May 28, 201412 yr Author re watched 1958 world cup last night, why no Nat? Any answers Malc? I asked my dad the same question. He said remember (as if I should!) he broke his collar bone just before the semi final of FA cup that season and missed the game. Ralph Gubbins stepped up and got us to the final. Nat played in the final with a big fuck off pin in his shoulder to botch him up so he could play. It pinned his collar bone to his shoulder. Presumably he didnt recover in time for the World Cup only a few weeks later.

May 29, 201412 yr re watched 1958 world cup last night, why no Nat? Any answers Malc? Altough Nat scored his last England goal in autumn 1958 he had effectively been replaced as England's first choice centre forward by Tommy Taylor, which he accepted in good part. Taylor, of course, died in the Munich crash. The two centre forwards in the 1958 squad were Derek Kevan of WBA and Bobby Smith of Spurs. Bolton did supply 2 squad members - Eddie Hopkinson and Tommy Banks. Banks played in all 4 matches (Hoppy didn't play). [And England played numbers 1 to 11 in their first match.]
June 2, 201412 yr Beckham?? I get the fact that he wore his heart on his sleeve and would do anything for England but for me we would have been better off without him. We had a cracking squad for years but never got a solid team together. Beckham was the first name on the team sheet which inevitably meant we had to play 442 even though we didn't have a left winger at all!! Seeing us play with joe cole out left, Beckham on the right whilst asking one of Lampard and Gerrard to sit and hold was crazy, such a waste. It should have been 433 with a holding midfielder giving Lampard & Gerrard freedom to attack. If we had a good out and out left winger then Beckham would have been in my 11, the fact we didn't meant we should have dropped him. he wasn't worth building a team around but no manager had the balls to drop him. June 10, 201412 yr Gazza by an absolute country mile i absolutely worshipped him still watch him on youtube all the time infact, its time now THIS WITH BELLS ON
June 13, 201412 yr Haven't really thought about it. Franny Lee would be up there though (Mexico 70). As an aside, it looks like we've been written out of the Sturridge story by the national meedja. According to my memory, his goals for us on loan were what sparked his rise to the top. Maybe it's my faulty memory then.
June 14, 201412 yr Stevie G Always looked up to him After he lifts the World Cup in a few weeks he will be mine Unless Russia stops us of course Edited June 14, 201412 yr by SalfordOriginal
