It’s just never been offside. Nobody watching that goal thinks it’s offside, nobody watching a replay thinks it’s offside - yet 4 minutes of forensically dissecting some blurry images finds a way to say that technically, by the absolute letter of the law we’ve found a way to disallow it. It’s just shite. Every football fan knows that VAR is the worst thing that’s ever happened to the game. Quote

We wanted VAR for the obvious mistakes, not this utter bullshit. Quote

gonzo Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Doing everything they can to disallow goals and justify it's existence. I hate the way the whole football community is just accepting it. There should be protests and petitions. Quote

DazBob Posted January 14 Posted January 14 What is bonkers is that it was clear to the naked eye that Haaland was in an offside position - no need for lines or anything. What should have happened is in no more than 30 seconds they tell the ref that he's in an offside position and to go to the monitor and decide if he is interfering with play. Quite why all that took over 6 minutes is beyond me. Quote
green genie Posted January 14 Posted January 14 If they applied that logic for every game Arsenal would probably be mid table with their obstruction of the keeper. Quote

Quite why all that took over 6 minutes is beyond me. I’m a bit conflicted on this. On one hand, I agree that from that still image you can see this his back foot is planted about 10cm offside compared to the keeper’s foot - offside. On the other hand, it’s only due to the introduction of VAR that we have now come to think that calling that offside is normal. If you play it at normal speed there is not even a suggestion it’s offside. Even if you look at the still image - they’re all in a line, in fact the defender is actually between Haaland and the goal, it just so happens that at that very second Haaland’s foot is ever so slightly in the ‘wrong’ place because they’re doing the usual wrestling. Prior to VAR you could show that image to 100 football fans and you’d do well to find 1 that could tell you why it’s offside. You’ll never get away from what should be classed as offside and what shouldn’t, because there will always be that tipping point where it goes from obvious to not obvious, and I understand that some will just say “well it’s offside, so it should be given” - I just don’t think it in any way improves the game and for me any changes to the game should be only for that purpose. My point was purely that it should have taken them no more than 30 seconds to see that Haaland was in an offside position, but because he didn't touch the ball it is up to the referee to then determine whether he was interfering with play. The referee should have been stood at the monitor making a decision in under a minute, not 6 minutes after. Having said all that VAR can fuck off. It's basically just a goal prevention system. Absolutely everybody agrees that the FA Cup games were so much better at the weekend due to not having it. Also, what the fuck is all this about with players no longer being cup-tied?? What a load of shite. Quote

I've no real issues with that, if they've spent millions on bringing the player in, they should be free to use him whenever they want I can see the issue if it's a loan, but perm transfers just crack on IMO Quote

Zog1 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Yeah down to 10 men and the ref has had an absolute howler. Team is a strange one, there are a few lads that look like theyre ready to step up and a few that look miles and miles behind. Guess you'll always get that in a youth team. Quote
