I'll let you know if I'm feeling as full of the yuletide spirit when I'm trying to get him to go home at midnight when he's pissed up in our kitchen! But he's making us breakfast round his in return, then we're off for a walk whilst his best mate takes him out for a pint, then lunch at ours. First time in a long time I'm looking forward to xmas and we're not letting someone who is going through a tough time spend the day by themselves.

We've got family and are lucky enough to be able to spend time with them; if you haven't you need friends. You'll love this, calls me Am Dram for being such a liberal, flouncy git at times!

I hope you're imposing your Christmas day dress code on him of winkle-pickers and a cravat

I used to work with someone who couldn't give a toss about Xmas. He just carried on with his normal routine as if it wasn't actually happening. I used to think it was a bit odd at the time but the more i think about it, the more i think he was right all along.

It's a nice thing you're doing there.

I often think I should do stuff like this but I'm just too much of a cunt, after all's said and done.

My kids are 4 and 5 now, probably nearing peak christmas enjoyment time for our family. They are bloody loving it at the moment.

THIS

I've just spent £50 on a real tree

All Christmas is full of robing bastards cunts

In recent years I've had one rule regarding Christmas, always try and make it as magical as possible for any kids - and I don't mean the old top hat with a hole cut in it on the lap...

Other adults then start encroaching on it and going all Rain Man with 'they must do this' and 'you must have that' and 'we've got to buy those...'

They're doing now but setting themselves up for an anticlimax, and I'm usually drained to f*ck and half-skint by the time I should be getting in the mood on Christmas Eve.

I'd bloody love it to be left alone until it's actually Christmas time, the 23rd at the earliest, then I'd be like Scrooge reborn instead of having to get half-cut to get 'festive' (which is out this year an' all) :(

I dunno about anyone else but annual events/celebrations are very much influenced by how the previous year has gone, I tend to celebrate more after a year of note, things always feel a bit forced if the years been a bit meh.

Absofuvckinglutely. If I've had a shite year I just want to get it all over with, a good one and I can't wait for the celebrations.

Luckily this year I am like the proverbial sand boy :)

Mine has been a bit meh, and, as I can't get too pissed, the celebrations are likely (though not a given) to be a bit meh.

Incidentally, and to everyone, not just nb, this is my Christmas card this year, it's referring to the top hat 'trick' I mentioned in the post above...

Christmas is shite.

Juan's dreamin' of a shite Christmas,

Just like the ones we used to know

Nice to see the Topper is back Youri

I like Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The rest of it is just a bonus holiday.

A textbook Christmas Eve includes Blackadder's Christmas Carol, It's A Wonderful Life, Father Ted Special, a Chinese and a tsunami of wine.

At some point, I always squeeze this absolute beauty in for good measure:

when I was a kid I was led to belive Santa delivered the presents on Xmas eve after his elves had made all the presents at the North Pole/Lapland.

Now our peg is telling our lad it's just one special present that is from Santa and the rest are sent by us and family for him to deliver...IE taking a bit of the glory.

Have I been led up the garden path all these years and its always been just one special present that is from the big man? Or is it all of em??

Santa brought the lot

He also crept into my bedroom and filled one of my football socks with tangerines, Quality Street and 2p pieces.

I was convinced i'd seen him carry this bit out one year but thinking back, it never crossed my mind to wonder why he'd dressed up in my mums clothes to do it.

Santa is a fucking weirdo when you think about it.

It was the same when i was a kid, mum dad aunties etc bought presents and one special present from Father Christmas.

2 things I always have at Christmas but not at other times of the year the first a tribute to my mum who passed away 18 years ago I always have a snowball drink her favourite Christmas tipple and secondly I always treat myself to Harvey's Bristol cream liquers been eating them since I was 10, without those 2 Christmas wouldn't me Christmas.
