AFC Bournemouth were Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic, & changed not only to shorten it but also to try & become 1st alphabetically.

Looked it up...  &  it was in 1972, they also changed their colours from mostly plain red to red & black stripes to copy AC Milan :rolleyes2: , but officially they are still Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic. So there you go.

Remember the train going down from Bolton in ?1972. We must have had over 5000 in our end in old Div 3. Roger Hunt scored a brace to spoil their promotion party and Ted McDougall and Phil Boyer didn't look too hot in their red and black shirts.

Perhaps we can do it again. It's incredible how much better than them we looked when we won there last season.

Wow great following 5000 to Bournemouth fantastic following is that.

Why is it 'inevitable'? Most owners don't change either.

Thirteen of the teams in the current Premier League have changed hands in the last few years, only one is proposing changing the club name and none have changed the club colours.

the hull owner wants to as he could make money out of doing so via marketing revenue

Tan did change cardiffs colours as he felt it made them more attractive in the far east

the glazers iirc took out loans against utd To make money

City fan I know of has sts for him and his kid, cost 1k last year, next time it's 2.5k

The oystons are letting blackpool plummet whilst bleeding them dry

Mk dons changed their name and moved 50 miles away

Mike Ashley changed the name of the ground to match that of his own company

all these owners are in it for the money to varying degrees and they'll exploit their clubs in whatever way they can to cash in or generate more income

I don't expect this to change or be the end of it

So when tan did what he did and the hull guy wanted to change the name it didn't surprise me as it was bound to happen at some point, ie I thought it was inevitable

Aye..The Leagueliner, but I think we lost that day.

None of that has anything to do with changing the name of the club or the club colours. The other examples you've given are the exceptions rather than the rule.

More clubs would do it if they thought they could make money out of it. The fact that they haven't tells you all you need to know. Even Tan eventually realized that the only thing people in the far east give a shit about, is whether the team is in the Premier League, not whether they play in red.

If we are going to change our name, I'd like it to be a subtle change,

Bolton Wonders would be good for me.

Subtle,

if its a far eastern type take over - Sultan Wanderers

If its the Oirish - Potatoe Whites FC

Bog trotters

you seem to have missed my point, which was it didn't surprise me that someone eventually did change the clubs colours and another wants to change the name, i felt it was bound to happen at some point

don't be surprised that if the hull owner was to eventually get his own way, that others wouldn't follow suit, don't be surprised if someone else comes in and decides he wants to relocate or change colours, nothing would surprise me, they may not go through with their plans, but no doubt they'll try something that pisses the fans off

most cash investors aren't doing this for the love of the game

Owners who put profit above anything aren't going to waste their time on something that will have no real impact. It's not a marketing strategy it's a vanity project.

"Assem Allam acknowledged he had not conducted research to support the plan for a name change."

Vava, we won 2-1 at Bournemouth on 18th March, 1972 with 2 goals from Roger Hunt.

I don't forget days out like that.

Yes, you're right, but I think it was the following season that we took loads of fans on the special train ( League  liner ) , we lost 0-2, &  it was on MOTD.

i think villa bournemouth drew 39k that season

Before my time but didn't we have a crowd of 33k against Blackburn at Burnden in 1973 - the year we went up from old Div 3 as champions?

Yes we lost 1- 0 very late goal from a corner Fazackely I think ........ nothing changes!

There was a special train when we won 2-1 and we packed one end of Dean Court out.

i think villa bournemouth drew 39k that season

yep, doesn't surprise me

it's why when fans look at potential takeovers they want to be taken over by people who have the club's interests at heart because there's some cranks out there on ego trips

you want someone like peter coates, not the venkys

im sure we've not seen the last of a newly appointed chairman wanting to do something likely to fuck off everyone else, all in their own interests - vanity, business or otherwise

Before my time but didn't we have a crowd of 33k against Blackburn at Burnden in 1973 - the year we went up from old Div 3 as champions?

And it was a Tuesday night too.

just goes to show cash injections aren't always what they are cracked up to be

no wonder they are the richest club in the world

wonder how many wish they were back in league one where tickets were cheap and away days ace?

Man City fans upset by season ticket changes

Manchester City fans have reacted angrily to a season ticket pricing overhaul with some supporters facing price rises of almost £900.

Some season ticket holders in the Colin Bell Stand have been asked to double their outlay to remain in their current seats - or switch to other parts of the ground.

The rises form part of a reconfiguration in the Colin Bell and East Stand second tiers. New Premium Seats priced at £1750 per season will replace seats which currently cost £885 for 2014/15.

The fee is for Premier League action only, meaning these seats will cost around £1 per minute of football watched.

Bell End or Stand?

It's very harsh to criticize City's owners given what they've achieved in such a short space of time.

They need to generate more income and that means either more corporate areas or putting the price of everyone's season ticket up. They're not forcing the people who sit in that area to pay it, they're giving them the option of moving to another part of the ground. It's not ideal but it's not as mercenary as it's being cracked up to be.

Incidentally Allam said that if he'd bought City, he would have changed the name of the club to 'Manchester Hunter'.

...Incidentally Allam said that if he'd bought City, he would have changed the name of the club to 'Manchester Hunter'.

He's said the same about Leeds United - they'd have become The Yorkshire Rippers.

That's my second ripper 'joke' in a week, I am 'topical' personified, next week I have a few 'jokes' lined up about those dirty buggers smearing shit all over the place in their jail over The Irish Sea.
