I don't think anyone gives a fuck about what's happening over there atm, what with our country being in the worst state in my lifetime and all.

You are clearly much younger than me. 1973 was the worst state in my lifetime - by a country mile.

On the plus side, we had Jimmy Armfield and a fine football team.

Yes sir, the amusement factor would be enormous. The wringing of hands and unfettered anguish from the Hollywood elite and the New York reds would be delightful.

Watched the documentary on BBC2 last night about him running again in 2024.

Better get ready for some giant meltdowns on here if the unthinkable was to happen.

You know you can not trust the BBC.

1973, after 3 years of Conservative leadership?  Surely not?

His supporters are NOT pig thick, swivel-eyed racists and conspiracy theorists and gun nonces. Be kind

Not all of his supporters are pig thick, swivel-eyed racists and conspiracy theorists and gun nonces but all pig thick, swivel-eyed racists and conspiracy theorists and gun nonces support him.

Oh don't worry. They tried their hardest to not be too obviously disparaging but their true colours shone through. You can be sure of that.

And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold, their hearts blood died in every fold.

That's right yes. That tory bastard James Callaghan was the problem.

The mantra of the Remainers runs deep in this one Obi Wan.

A bit before my time but you're going to have to explain this one to me;

How was James Callaghan, the Labour PM from 76-79(?) responsible for Britain being shite in 1973 under a different party?

I am glad we had your mega brain to decipher it all.

None more than yours.

Does anyone unless they are massive US political followers really give him more than a passing thought other than when he's in the news?

As you say, our politics is in a much more interesting state at the moment.

No, but some yearn for his return like a loyal dog howls for its deceased Master.

Also, I didn't say that.

Because he was the architect of the Social Contract proposed between the Trade Unions and (future Labour) Government.  Anything seemed better than Heath, a situation strangely reminiscent of today's outlook.

Simple. Old bastard confusion. 73 should have read 78. I'm off to Specsavers and the off licence.
