For a back 4 maybe but he's too short to replace GJ in a back 3 IMO - he's a proper LB. And I agree with Rizlar - if we're going to fund an unemployed person I'd hope for a better calibre of unemployed person.

I don't recall John being that bad in the last few months.  If he was, why was IE picking him at Wembley v Plymouth and using him for the last half hour of the play off at Barnsley (probably says a lot about Williams impact). Mind you Dan started at Barnsley with 3 strikers on the bench, they were strange times!
