Iles said post Barrow that some problems had emerged - without elaborating.

Ah so we're going in to the rest of the first half of the season one light of the squad size we're allowed.

Clever.

Tricking League 1 in to a fall sense of security.

Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers have made moves to sign former Fulham winger Sylvester Jasper on a free transfer

My money is he goes to NAC

That'll be because despite playing some version of 3 or 5 at the back his preferred formation is 4-3-3.

I'd like 442 with 2 FB/WBs on each side - old school wide men with overlapping FB. Bibi and Diddy aren't even 60 yet so I was wondering.....:)

Given what we've got, and to get over this over reliance of plaything out from the back, we need a talented lump as the focal point. A la Harland.

Leave everything as it is, just replace Charles with a mobile target man. Then let Charles, McAtee, Collins, CMG buzz around that fulcrum in any way that works.

Also think with Dempsey Matete and GJ in midfield we have plenty of legs to compete for the second ball and runs into the box.

It would just get us up the pitch quicker, on occasions, and let us play the football we are good at in their half not ours.

If it's good enough for Pep!

Can't say I'm surprised when we already have 4 strikers plus CMG/Lolos in advanced positions.

That’s grim when you read it out loud. Not ladapo but anyone wanting to play for Huddersfield over us. Oh well

Went to Rotherham away in the Keith Hill years and he destroyed us. Kept an eye on him since and he’s been mainly sub. Bit like Kachunga when he was at Huddersfield when we played them in the cup and they were premiership at the time. Look how shit he turned out to be.

Not really, I'd say Huddersfield probably have a better chance of promotion than us.

It seems to be received wisdom that Lapado is better than Vic. That may be true but I don't KNOW it.

A player will only achieve with us if the boss knows how to use him. Otherwise he'll be re-coached to the Evatt way before he's let loose. Plus, as said elsewhere, the "no pre-season" bllx will be poured out.

Ladapo's no better than what we have, top end L1 ) bottom end Champ operator, just a bit different. For that reason he'd have been worth having but so be it. Hopefully nothing in the Jasper talk, a winger hardly top priority, a physical presence up front far more a necessity. Persevering with a 3 up top where a midget like Charles is in the middle is lunacy (though no doubt it'll work a treat on Sat 🤣)

I went to Rotherham too, Verlinden's goal still one of my favourite BWFC moments, because of what had gone before. Ladapo scored 2 but he's a bit shit in truth, no loss and Huddersfield will already have better strikers. It was Matt Crooks who ran the show for me, scored for Boro here last year, he's quality.

The writing was on the wall a couple of days ago when it was announced we faced competition for him and confirmed in my mind when we were linked with Jasper so I'd already written him off. However I still think there's a chance Vic could go and TBH I wouldn't mind if we got an upgrade, but that's looking less likely now and so Evatt will want to keep him - a saga which wouldn't do a lot for Vic's confidence TBH.

Never know although I'm not sure who else is unemployed who would fit the bill and sign for us. Hopefully we have a wide net.

Well played in the right way I’d take Vic over Ladapo any day but since we don’t play a style that I think would suit either I’m not fussed he isn’t coming. Having said that with Evatt pursuing a winger maybe he’s about to change that?

He's had several wingers. He doesn't play them & then tries to make them wing-backs.

I'm almost at the point of thinking that I'll never understand the thinking behind our "system",  the positions or the recruitment for specific roles - mainly because it's not what I'd do in Evatt's situation but ultimately football is a simple game and I suspect it's being overthought and being made unnecessarily complicated.

I accept and expect that defence has to be structured and disciplined - and as long as the team keeps it's defensive shape and the players cover when someone wanders forward, don't give the ball away easily and track back, tackle and mark up when they do give it away that should be enough. Basic uncomplicated stuff.

What drives me bonkers though is it seems like there is way too much "detail" in transition and attack which IMO should be far more fluid and rather than having talented players under instruction to take up specific forward positions all the time - which makes it very predictable - encourage them to use their initiative, anticipate what could happen, run wherever they think they can find space and react to what the others are doing - even if it means we have two wide men on the same side in some situations or we give the ball away trying to to get an overload or advantage.

These are decent players with footballing brains of their own and I'd much rather we let them try different ways to be creative and occasionally fail and learn than do the same shit with the same result time and time again. The attackers seem shackled by "detail" - apart from Dempsey who is everywhere. Why not give them all licence to roam and react to each other with the simple instruction for the nearest player to be ready to cover whilst we get back into defensive shape if we turn it over?

If we are going to take risks with the ball I'd much rather it was at the top end of the pitch well away from our goal and not at the back.
