A big question that as yet I have seen no answers is do any of the new signings live close to the ground ?

I like Baxters responses,  I think we can see the lad has done his homework on bwfc and the curve the club is on.  Got to love 'I had a good chat with the gaffer, 5 minutes about the club and the rest about the ashes , my mind was already made up'

Yeh I liked that too.

Bit of a far cry from @Wanderlust‘s “worrying recruitment process” 🙄

That really is a desperado attempt to start an argument in an empty room - especially as this entire thread is littered with folk worrying about our signings. Plus it's now twice you've twisted my words to try to make a point.

Argumentative + inaccurate = give your head a wobble, pal

I love all the Twitter folk saying “these lads are the right thing” “we sign x and it will be perfect”

not having it people know who the fuck these players are

The only players I'd ever heard about before they signed under Evatt's reign have been Cameron Jerome and Declan John . I think I might have heard of Dion Charles as well. I didn't even know who Kieran Lee was 😁

This.

We appear to be signing a bunch of very competent pro's from this & the division below. If we took the best player from 6 or 7 clubs in these divisions there's no harm in that.

Kane Wilson, though from Bristol City, only played about half a dozen times since leaving Forest Green.

It's not an unfair to wonder if these add to our ability, or just our squad depth. Only time will tell.

There's room & it seems budget, for a couple from higher levels. There's no end of released Championship players but wages will be their issue.

Plus, our improved reputation for loan players won't harm us & I expect a couple through the door. Though let's remember we had more Mbete's, Beck's & Shoretire's than Traff's & Bradley's.

Wanderlust.

Our recruitment is also restricted by finance and the level we're at. So more of a gamble.

Yet in the time since their arrival we've improved on and off the pitch every season.

You really are a ray of sunshine, but it's understandable with you living on an island built on colonialism etc. Depressing.

🤣

Its a forum where we express our opinions and disagree.

I disagree that we have a worrying recruitment process, so I passed comment.

Dempsey, Morley, Trafford, Bradley, Sheehan, Lee, Fossey, Afolayan, John, Jones, Santos, Doyle, Johnston - in fact any of our players who you think have been any good! 🤣 All have been identified by Evatt and his team and have been part of our progress over the last 3 years.

I think that’s pretty good and valid evidence to debate and disagree with your comments.

All clubs, even the best, will make the odd signing that doesn’t work.

Only poor ones by evatt for me

dixon & crellin

kachunga

sadlier (not a poor player but baffling why he signed him)

Then big question marks over jerome & vic but give them a fresh start this season

Question mark over Randall Williams, too ?

I think Randell will be very good for us next season. Less certain on Victor but fingers crossed

Hope Kane Wilson is announced later

Teams have paid millions for players who’ve failed to deliver so you can never be certain. I certainly trust IE and CM to get it right most times as they already have for me. The injury problems and change of shape and direction at Bristol seemed more the problem for Wilson for me but the lad still has huge potential and if he does come, feels wanted and buys into Evatt’s system he can become a very valued member of the squad. Traff was crap at Accy but look how he turned out. You just never know.

Got to say that his final ball on those clips looks far better than Bradley’s which was always his least impressive asset to me. The likes of Victor and Jerome could certainly benefit from assists like those.

Yep - well my original point was made in the midst of an avalanche of comments on how good our signings so far have been (response to NIC's question about whether everyone was happy with them) and my opinion was and still is that we've signed players who haven't fitted in before, we've signed players who were hyped but turned out to be not all that before and we've signed players who didn't look promising at first but turned into good 'uns before - all of which means, we haven't got a f***** clue how they'll work out.

If everyone's happy with them - great - and I HOPE as much as anyone that they turn out to be brilliant, but given the mixed success our recruitment to date has enjoyed, I WORRY that they won't hack it.

I'd go as far as to say the majority of Wanderers fans  hope they'll succeed but also worry that they won't.

That is a long way from your implication that I think the BWFC recruiting system is crap. I don't, it isn't - but it ain't perfect either.

Every target / signing comes with risk. The more you pay, generally the lesser the risk. We’re not quite shopping in the whoopsie aisle anymore. More like the own brand section. You get what you get and hope you can improve it.

fundamentally Evatt and his recruitment team are data driven with an eye for players they feel can be coached. Whether that be a blank canvas type of young lad or slightly older trying to make their way in the game. Is it going to work every time? No. But it’s worked well far more times that it hasn’t so far.

aside from the first window in L2 when it was about getting numbers in I think our recruitment plan has been the most cohesive and forward thinking it’s been for many a year.

highlight examples where it hasn’t worked. Fine. Don’t criticise the whole process cos that’s just nonsense

It is nonsense. That's exactly why I didn't criticise the whole process.

Agree with what you say. Most are a bit disappointed with the January signings but maybe the ones that are still here will come good this season. The two goalies and wing backs look reasonable and could be the answer to losing Traff and Bradley

There was huge scepticism when we signed both

traff due to his experience at Stanley and Bradley because of the impact of Fossey previously. Both exceeding expectations massively. Players of that age and almost zero experience in first team football are not always going to work out. Mbete and Shoretire? Hmmm no. So over the course we are probably par.

with Baxter and the proposed signing of Wilson I think we’ve minimised the impact of losing Traff and Bradley as best we could with what we have to spend. But only time will tell

Tom Davies released from Everton. Would you want him? Bet championship clubs are after him though plus be on big wages.

Is that a serious question, that Bolton could recruit him with his wage expectations ?
