That is a long way from your implication that I think the BWFC recruiting system is crap. I don't, it isn't - but it ain't perfect either.

Whos is perfect?

Its about numbers at the end of the day.

The percentage that do work is mucn higher than the ones that apparently haven't.

The trajectory of the clubs league position is the only thing that matters along with being sustainable.

Id be intrested to hear your utopian recruitment policy.

Oh dear.

whilst I agree with your premise, your surmise that I have a better solution is bollocks - and weirdly I never claimed to have one so I guess the bollocks is in your head.
What I would add though is that rich clubs can afford to make more mistakes than the likes of us so we have more riding on every signing relatively.

doesn’t change the fact that our system isn’t perfect though - and in case you didn’t catch it the first or second time I wrote it, I repeat that I hope the gambles we can afford work out - but as you say yourself,  they don’t always do they?

Easy tiger.

No system is perfect. And theres a difference between gambling and singing players based on stats in accordance to our budget and sustainability.

Like I said before, whats the alternative?

Theyve not let us down before, theres absolutely nothing to suggest they will do in the future.

We finished 5th in the league on a midtable budget.

Itll be reet, calm your cotton socks, not everybody is on the attack.

Bradley Dack up at Middlebrook today 👀

Free agent, 50 goals in 150 games in the championship for roverrrrrrs, decent bird.

Theres yer goalscoring midfielder.

The Baccus highlight reel is interesting. How often do you see a reel for a defensive midfielder that features goals and assists? Played well in the international v Argentina last week by all accounts, even though they lost 2 nil thanks to that Messi guy.

Not ours but Barnsley now find themselves in a situation where manager and main player (the c.half) have gone/going.  Be a struggle for this lot to now reach the heights of last season methinks. (I still think that Luca lad in midfield would be good for us) !

Swansea fans are in for a treat!

He's more of an attacking midfielder, than a defensive one. Although the way Australia sets up, even their forwards rarely get into the attacking half.

Only 10 goals in 170 games.

Good player though. Came on as a sub in all 3 WC group games, and then started in Round of 16.

I asked St Mirren fans whether they thought Baccus was worth £400 to £450k...this is what they said:

£400-£450 won't buy Baccus. Try doubling that amount and throw in add ons. There is a few looking at him so unless you are prepared to push the boat out then he will go elsewhere.

Whilst I think Keanu is worth more, we have to also be realistic.

He only has a year left and if the board is faced with a choice of £400K now or £0 next Summer then it won’t be a very difficult decision for them to make.

If he goes to England with a decent sell on attached then the hope is that we get the bigger rewards further down the line.

All things being equal, we should be looking at 7 figures.

Going into last year though, I'd be disappointed if we accepted less than £750k and absolutely raging if he went for under £500k.

Anything less and you're well into 'not worth selling him now' territory and you'd be better off keeping him until January and seeing where we are...if we're out both cups and europe isnt a remote possibility then we'd be as well punting him then for about £200k.

Half a million now would at least give us a fair shake of a decent replacement. A couple hundred grand wouldn't.

What I WOULD like to see is a show of good faith from Baccus in the form of O'Hara that he signs a short extension with the understanding of a bid coming in above a certain amount meaning we wouldn't stand in his way.

Such things as this are unlikely though and I feel O'Hara is the exception rather than the rule.

Finally, much like Blackpool when they were sniffing about, I don't think Bolton or League 1 is a good move at all for Baccus. He's 25, a regular in the Australia squad now and is definitely at the level where he can play championship level football without any fuss. If he was 19 or 20 I'd be saying it's a logical next step but he's at a stage now that if he's going to move, it needs to be to a higher standard of football again.

I would keep Baccus for the £400k if that was all there was to the deal, £400k and a 25% sell on with bonuses for international caps, and I might be interested.

Quote

I think many of the teams looking at Baccus think there's a profit to be made and will look to sell him on . Add ons will be hugely important in any deal to sell Baccus

I like Baccus but hes not got a real unique selling point. Theres plenty slightly worse players who offer the same/more in terms of tangible output you can get for under £1m.

Hibs got millions for Nisbet because hes a proven goalscoring striker. Comparing him to Baccus in terms of what clubs want is mental. Goals win prizes so the cost is greater.

Make of that what you will....
