I could virtually give a match report on most home games in the 80s/early 90s, and plenty away, but I could hardly name a player from a given season since turn of century.  I can name players from eras, but definitely wouldn't be able to pin games or players names to a particular year or even within 2 or 3 years.  Just a blur of merged memories last 20 years.  81-82 clear as a whistle, who played, the best wins etc.

It's crazy isn't it , I struggle with a lot of the latter premier League seasons also but remember the 95 and 97 season pretty well even now.

Yes  I don't think there were many full season loans back then in general , I'm trying to think if Taylor , Salako and Carr were January loans in 1998.

Taylor definitely came in January

Was there such thing as transfer windows back then?

Think he signed in Jan and sure re signed later that season on loan or something like that on March deadline

I think you could sign players right up until a date in March

When we first signed Djorkaeff, we signed him in February

Sort of, couldn't sign anyone after march

Also

Taylor was initially a one month loan

Remember them?

Are they still even a thing? Not heard of one in years

Franz Carr played against Liverpool in November so was a November signing. Possibly post-Beardsley but not sure.

Yes , Carr made 5 Sub Appearences and Salako made 7 from sub.

Good point.  It was fairly routine to sign someone for a month, now it feels like a fairly big commitment on both sides to get someone on loan, I wish they'd bring it back.  Could try before you buy, like Mark Seagraves in the 90s, or send 'em back sharpish like Mike Ring and Nigel Jemson.  Or extend a month or 2 - Andy Dibble IIRC.

Ritchie was a superb player

Gave away possibly the most stupidest penalty in that game v Ipswich

Johnston also scored a cracker in it

Gonzo, don't 😃

Was a bit of a weird one that he’d been linked with Rangers for what felt like a couple of years. Signed for them on a Bosman but Hearts loaned him to us rather than playing him themselves or let him go to Rangers early. Finally goes to Rangers in the summer and they decide to sell him to Man City without him ever playing a game.

Fuck off

Next day I had to spend the office with an Ipswich fan

It was small and only two of us

Her first thing: fancy a brew

Me: fuck off

Bit later

Her: I'm off to lunch, can you cover stuff

Me: fuck off

Later

Her: I'm off home

Me: Fuck off

With these rumours around Charles; if he was snapped up by someone higher up, who would you look at as a replacement?

Just a talking point, as I don't think he'll go, but I've no idea who would be suitable.

I note that both Stevenage and Northampton have a player each with a decent goal record this season, and maybe that's the type we'd have to look at, but in general, I've no idea.
