FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

  • Sure it's that Mandela effect in full flow here that we all seem to be OK with this. It's a fucking travesty and complete shitshow. He's our most prolific striker by a country mile, has been

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

Dykes signing for Birmingham from QPR for a million. Some signing that.

Just one big fucker!

Not gossip, but wouldn't surprise me if Paris doesn't rock back up here on loan. Not in the Brentford Cup squad tonight so presumably still recovering.  Evatt was talking about waiting for players hoping to get a higher level (and not).

Not sure where he's playing in this team/formation though if he comes back.

He'll surely go to the league above

Can't see it.

We've got Lolos now, and Matete, as well as another striker.

As much as I'd like to see it based on last season I don't see where he'd fit in this new setup alongside everyone else we've signed

It's real easy for me, a midfield of Thommo, Paris and Matete in front of the defence would look so much stronger. I think Evatt should be doing everything he and the club can to make it happen. Despite Sheenan's performance last year, i still cant get past how lightweight he is when we do not have the ball and i think he'd be a great impact sub circa 60 mins in to a game.

The Paris ship has sailed I reckon.

We've bought others in.

Time to move on.

Cannot see us bringing anybody in unless we lose a couple , think Dan will be on his way by the end of the window.

I see Evatt has given Dion the deadly "manager's vote of confidence" as we enter the pointy end of the transfer window.

Dion is OK as a main striker. Takes a good pen and works incredibly hard for the team out of possession but dithers a bit when he's through on goal at times. Getting an upgrade would probably be a mega-expensive venture, especially on short notice.

There is aN argument for cashing in now and getting a pacy fox in the box loanee in to try to get us over the line and deferring the problem until we know what division we'll be in next year though.

There’s no question what division we’ll be in if Charles goes now.

Of course there's a question. Depends on if we get a replacement and if so who? Or whether McAtee or Collins could take on the central role pro tem. If the price is right, every player is up for sale - we're a business.

It's a business but we the fans never see that cash generated from transfers. It's usually sunk into infrastructure like a new training ground or car park and rarely totally reinvested in a new player. Doubt there's a better option than Dion out there for the price they would get. He's just getting back to full sharpness as well so I'm not one of the sheep wanting to get rid. If he's struggling at Xmas then maybe an option to cash in

The business - and the share value - need all of those things. But it's a bit like disagreeing with the manager over the team he picks - there is nothing we can do about it but we know it's very much in his interest to pick the team for the job in hand based on the (better) information he has so ultimately we just have to have faith.

Same applies to the owners/shareholders - it's very much in their interest to have a successful team on the pitch especially with the promise of the incomes further up the pyramid - so they'll spend the money as they see fit based on the (better) information they have and again, there's nothing we can do about it and we just have to have faith.

But none of the others would score as many as Dion with our system, despite him missing sitters.

OK here's the case that is potentially being considered:

Dion is a high earner and we've spent a lot of dosh this window so a) they may consider recouping some or all if they can get a silly offer for Dion given our year on year losses and b) use Dion's wages to finance a high quality loan from say Real Madrid B or a Prem team as we have in the past.

If we can consistently create the increased number of chances that we had against an admittedly average Shrewsbury team (so not guaranteed) our primary issue is converting a higher percentage of them. There may be an up and coming  hot shot finisher lurking on the fringes of a top team who needs game time - maybe someone who does little else but finish and therefore doesn't fit with his club's playing ethos. Take them on loan and compensate for Dion's work rate by playing Demps George and Matete in support with two athletic WBs.

If we get promoted we'll then be guaranteed higher income which would finance a permanent replacement. If we don't get promoted we make do as we're fucked anyway but the balance sheet will look better which opens the door for further investment or takeover.

It's a devil's argument and I don't think it will happen, but I always get a little suspicious when the manager comes out and makes a statement like Evatt did on the penultimate day of the transfer window.

This is nonsense, most football clubs run at huge losses because they invest heavily in the playing squad on salaries and wages. We have made nothing on sales recently and spent millions!

Where is the link/source that this is potentially being considered? Or is this just one of your hypothetical scenarios?

We've spent far more in the last 18 months on transfers than we've brought in. Far, far more. Very harsh to criticise owners for not reinvesting transfer money when they've actually gone above and beyond that!

As it says, it's a hypothetical scenario.

Like dropping Sheehan for Matete to play alongside George was before it happened :)
