Just listened to ss ont wireless, absolute no panic whatsoever about where the squad is at and confirming (again) thay they all know what is needed in the next few WEEKS.

He knows his stuff does ss . Total faith in the lad.

He also said we have a bigger budget for signings than he had with Plymouth when they got promoted (what they spent i ain't got a clue)

FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

  • Sure it's that Mandela effect in full flow here that we all seem to be OK with this. It's a fucking travesty and complete shitshow. He's our most prolific striker by a country mile, has been

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

Its a frustrating little period of time this and that sensation will be heightened if our incomings remain static and we have to absorb a defeat or two on the pitch. I just think what we have to bear in mind is that it is so very obviously because we are waiting for Prem teams (and Celtic) to make decisions. Whether loans or permanent deals we are therefore aiming at the top end and for improvement.

I do think we have a little bit of money to spend. I also think the playing down of the budget is deliberate to help with the nitty gritty of negotiations. Last thing you need is agents and opposition managers knowing you've got loads of cash. Having said that it is also patently clear we are nowhere near as minted as plenty in this league.

SS handles himself well in those interview situations. I don't think the comms team at BWFC will be in too much of a sweat after that hour, he seemed to stick to the brief and remain calm and collected while doing so.

Great fact.

And yet another point which explains why things are stagnant, not just for us, but right across the transfer market at the moment.

Some cock asked Darren Mcwhatshisface on talksport about us the other day.

He said same as any club in the Championship and even his Peterborough, folk need to relax. All the prem teams are only just figuring out who's going where on loan. That has a major play in the rest of it.

We go sign some fucker for £3m and the next day a Prem team decides to loan their best youngster.

Plymouth spent 2.5M in 23/24. Not huge, but we'll end up spending more than that by September 1st

Probably spent more than £1m already (less if you take out the reported £500K we brought in with the sale of Schon). It was £700K on Stephenson, £150K on Watson and not sure on Famewo.

I said earlier in the thread Brighton a very average Premier League club had 8 players away at the WC. There were 182 EPL player at the WC and 62 of those were in squads that reached the quarter finals. (Googled that !)

The idea that all these players and clubs will be settled on their plans straight away is mad. SS said today had been speaking to ACD but he needs to understand the squad position at Brighton first.

This the classic situation where there numerous moving parts and as they get into line things will start happening. We all want it sooner rather than later but equally going too soon could see us missing better players down the line.

Some of our fans need to give their heads a good wobble and calm the duck down!

Fake accounts on twitter pretending to be agents

Changing players wiki's then claiming they have signed

Constantly going on "Panic as we haven't bought anyone".. etc

Last panic buys we had were Evatt in his death throws, he bought Randall, Kion Etete and Alex Murphy.. One's just nose dived, the other gave a penalty in his first match and then got injured, and Alex Murphy tbf seemed OK for a kid..

The window before that it was Jay Matete (sold to league 2 club), Lolos, Forino, McAtee, Tutu, Schon and Arfield.. tbh only McAtee and Forino really worked out with Tutu being in the wilderness for a good while..

Panic buying won't work.

But if he doesn't buy anyone in, the fans will be blaming that for the inevitable struggle we have..

Reading only we have the 2nd lowest wage bill. Sustainability is much more important than challenging for top half..

I'm not sure all those were panic buys, were they?

I just think Evatt was an idiot and out of his depth. Markham has just announced Huddersfield not going up but building a hotel would be a good season. Progress yes. Good season😂

We now have good people in good departments.

There's no chance those figures are accurate

By this date last season we'd made nine signings, including three youngsters on loan from clubs in a higher league

TSL and ACD had been with us and training for over a month

Aye, but there wasn't a world cup to delay everything by a month last season.... plus, we're fishing for talent closer to the first team this season.

TSL & ACD were miles from first team last season, easy decision to let them go on loan. TSL probably still is, ACD less so

It'll all be reet in the end

Relish the underdog tag 👊

Honest interview with SS on questions and answers in gmr

Missed out on top targets this summer ( but that can be common in football )

Players know were not good enough they can see it themselves

Low budget but did it at Plymouth have to try and stay in the league to get further investment in the future may be to push on

Those are worrying comments .

Yes, but that's my point

This season's equivalent of TSL and ACD haven't yet been sent on loan

It's for those reasons (and others) that this transfer window is different

He also mentioned were not getting 15 or 20 chances a game like last season so need to be more clinical he wants to be competitive in every game but there are games were we might be in for a spanking ( or words to that effect )

For not being good enough amd the players knowing it he added they can see we have no right winger and only Dalby up top

I certainly didn’t take this, or anything close to this, away from his interview.

Have I read, or have you written that correctly?

The players know we are not good enough and they can see it in themselves???

Jesus, lets pack our bags and give up now.

It is correct that SS said the players we have currently know the squad as it is now isn't good enough

He was pushed on it by the interviewer and said they can see we're not good enough as we don't yet have any right winger

I think there’s a big difference between interpreting that as -we all know the squad isn’t big enough and we need more quality in depth

Than some beleaguered acceptance that the players who are in the building aren’t good enough!

With you on this talk about throwing the towel in that really gives me confidence for the season.

Sure, I was clarifying

if we finish 23rd, we'll have had a good season

Yeh, no issue with what he (and you) are saying there 👍

The players here “seeing it in themselves that they are not good enough” was poorly worded then from @Farnywhite

Us as a team/squad being aware that we are not yet good enough because (amongst other positions) we have no right winger is what SS is saying - and the players see this.

There is no right winger who has been playing for anybody to see them as not being good enough!
