We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

We have been here before even in the early days with Sam we had hardly any squad on the pre season tour to Denmark and think we lost out in the play offs that season I remember signing Isaiah Rankin the night before one season opener and he scored, we are a low budget club always have been and always will be. Get used to it.

can’t even remotely compare

We bought frandson back from Blackburn for 2.4m that season plus paying for rickets and hendry

Yes some very good loans but he had some good players already

But we won promotion then and are merely trying to survive now.

I don't think its really worthy of comparison, this league is totally different with clubs spending fortunes now in some cases. I think the point was that we have been in situations like this comparatively to our league opponents more seasons than not.

In the premiership we were often totally short going in and certainly nowhere near competing financially with most. Without investment we're going to be scrabbling around and that will continue until the ownership or financial position changes.

I’m pretty sure back then in the Championship, clubs weren’t buying players for 10/15 mil each.

We are really going to struggle competing against teams in our division next year.

We can’t keep getting thumped 3/4-0 in matches like last year, and just keep saying, “but they spent much more on their squad”.

Almost all the teams in our league, have spent more than us, we’ve spent £0 on transfer fees in 3 years!

We are in the same league, we have to compete with the teams in our league, or else there’s no point.

Maybe you and your mates can finance the club you seem to have a fine grasp on what is needed.

Thing is, when Eddie left us in the lurch and we were selling everything not nailed down, people were screaming for the club to be run "sustainably". I'll bet most of the twitter whingers were on about living within our means and not ending up in huge debt.

This is the reality of that. And they are still whinging. As a football club we cannot spend money we don't have. Ken from the very start was up front saying he couldn't bankroll us. So I'm not really sure what they are moaning about. We all want a team that can compete at the top of the league and to be making exciting signings. But the reality is we are still trying to get by from month to month. Complaining about it, won't change that.

We aren’t being laid back about anything.

Ken doesn’t have any money to buy players, which he freely admits.

Therefore we can’t go out and buy who we want without investment.

Hence why we are signing the players we are.

Those trying to invest are jokers.

I’m just thankful he isn’t just selling our club to someone faking bank statements.

Stop moaning FFS.

You can't force people to invest.

We are hand to mouth and will have to get used to it for the foreseeable future.

It's going to be difficult but you don't start with such a defeatist attitude. Who knows what will happen before a ball is kicked ?

That's the natural order of things. We would have to be very canny and lucky in the market to get anywhere near the quality to disrupt that. Basically we are hoping we are the best of a bad bunch of four or five teams. That's all we can hope for and logic says we are going down as we don't have nor afford the quality required. Last season was a miracle.

Kens spent the last 2 years turning the lights off when people have left a room and in that time cobbled together a transfer war chest of about 500k

i have absolutely no fucking idea how people want him to be competing with other clubs in this league.

There is a lot of not very bright individuals on twitter. You only need look at the revenue of the football club to see that we're going to struggle to compete with anyone in this division. They seem to struggle to grasp that selling players does not mean you have that money sat waiting to spend. It covers the loss we make every month.

It is frustrating and I get people being disappointed. But we've been through an awful lot worse. I guess most of them cannot remember when things really were grim.

That doesnt just apply to Twitter it seems

Some of our signings have enthused me to a degree.

The pre season hasn't though, so I envisage a slow start, but getting better.

A decent striker and comfortable.

I know we can’t be competing financially with other teams,

But my point was that they are still in our league, we SHOULD be competing with them.

Somebody said I’m a defeatist, frankly I’m the opposite.

We shouldn’t just be looking at games against Forest for example, next season, and after if we lose badly, we just say “But they spent more”

Yes it’s a fair point they’ve spent more, but I believe we should go into every game believing we can win.

Not just accept we are going to lose, because they’ve spent more.

Let’s get a team of horrible bastards, and make it hard for the other 23 teams as much as possible.

But we need to get 6/7 extra signings in, and embedded within the squad, which is going to be a difficult task, as the season only starts in 8 days. That’s why I wish we prepared much more efficiently.

I would think Beevers could still be sacrificed if we can get a cheaper option in place.

I know we're not in a great place but sacrificing our players seems a bit extreme. Can we not just kill a goat or something? Or a donkey? We've got loads of them surely.

We can only piss with the cock we've got

It's up to those individuals, the manager and his back room staff to get the best out of it, we all need to stick together, sometimes it's not all about spending money because you can blow shit loads on players who are not up to it, who you then can't get shut of as we've seen in the past

I personally would rather have a team of grafters than a team of expensive drama queens who the club have gambled on and it's fucked the club up eg, Villa

Some folk think beevers is a donkey not me though I’m one of the few who likes him, but if we got offered 3 million I’d snap their hands off.

Well aye, but that’s not happening is it?

3Mill?, think KA would snatch at about 250K

You never know with Rangers, that club slings money around like a drunken sailor.

When the reformed club joined the Third Divison they paid their first choice goalkeeper £600k pa, that in a League when their rivals were splashing out £15 appearance money with a can of Irn Bru at half time.

We haven't even replaced the squad players that we released..........it would be barmy to lose Beevers, one of the first choice players we've got left, in some vague hope that we can replace him, with no money, in a couple of weeks.

When they were in that league they still had the second largest wage bill in Scottish football

I think the board has been way too laid-back over this summer.

It's not in our control

We had that type of player last season. And we got spanked. Regularly.

This season the club have made the decision to try and move away from that a little bit. Reduce the age, increase the quality. That doesn’t happen overnight

Are we all a bit worried we should be further down the line? Absolutely but first we have to compete with clubs in and around us in the market before we can compete with them on the green stuff

The Board and management aren’t disorganised or unambitious because it’s not already been sorted. It’s the way the market is, all clubs are still short.

For the pittance we have available it’s going to take time. A lot longer than the players that cost a few million where you can go here’s your money, here’s your wages, signed.

When Martyn Waghorn who is a 1 in 4 man in the championship is going for £8m it shows you what we are up against

Totally agree with this. Pretty much sums it up. When you have nothing or at best a few hundred thousand to spend on a fee and a wage bill whereby you aren’t paying more than £10K a week it’s hard to get the quality that will be effective in this division.

They’ve probably got 6 players who are upgrades on what we got last year. The trouble now is the best frees are gone so it’s loans and buys mainly. The loans and buys are hard without money as the best premiership loans have big fees attached as Parky explained.

If there was anything at all to pick at right now it might be releasing both Henry and Pratley. One of them would have probably added to what we have now and we are still short in that area. Apart from that I don’t think they could have done much more than they have unless they were lucky and found a magical investor in May.

Did I read it on here or somewhere else? An article about how much in hock Championship clubs were to people who were bankrolling them

Seem to think that it was last season and related to Wolves

Basically saying that getting to the Prem was nirvana but so many owners were gambling too much and failure to go up could mean a lot of clubs in serious financial trouble

As I type this I'm wondering if the article was related to Villa

Whatever, I'd rather bounce around for a few years with no ambition other than staying in this division and getting the club somewhere near solvent so that we can start again
