We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

Good to see

Right-back Jones, 26, has signed a deal running until June, 2024, while the midfield trio have all extended their contracts until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Happy to see all of them sign extensions :good:

Good stuff. Especially Thomason, who isn't getting much time at the moment. Presumably Evatt is treating him like Pep did with Foden. Sees potential and is bringing him on.

Happy with that. Dapo has had the most eyecatching moments but i'd have MJ & Jones as our most consistent, week in week out  performers this season & Thomason has potential.

Thomason must be pinching himself I really hope he makes it with us, love to see a young local lad coming from grassroots as late as he has.

George's mum still cuts his hair for him.

It must be a struggle for him to keep his concrete head up for a while whilst his hair is cut.

Happy with that.

I like Thomason. There seems to be an expectation that he has to be the finished product and if he’s not he’s shit. Young player still learning his trade.

Spot on Rudy.

He said a bit back how much he appreciated Evatt and reckoned he was good for his game.

Still interesting that Politic hasn’t signed

I reckon he will. Maybe didn’t fancy dropping to L2 if we end up shit or didn’t think he’d be ready for the championship if we go up.

FWIW, I reckon he’ll be back in Jan and if he’s getting enough minutes, will sign before Easter

Interesting he is now cup tied, he ain't coming back in January, meaning he's a free agent.

For what cup?

Played today so FA Cup. Even if we recalled him early Jan, likely he wouldn’t play 3rd round. We’re bound to be out by 4th round so no issue for me

Yeah give a fuck about the cups. It’s the league we need be focused on

It's a bit weird he hasn't signed it, can only think Evatt said to him "go to Port Vale, if you can stay fit and put in some good performances, then maybe you'll get in the first team at Bolton".

Maybe Denis has thought, he's better holding out and assessing his options. But seeing as he's just had a long-term injury, you'd think he'd want that guaranteed contract on the table.

Probably an ambitious player and wants guaranteed game-time and won't sign the contract until he knows he'll get it.

Have we actually offered him a contract

surely bolton are playing cautious with this after such a bad injury it’s about minutes on the pitch otherwise it could be a costly one if he breaks down

The other big factor not to forget with Politic, is that at the moment he is a squad player for a league 2 side.

He’s had a bad injury and lengthy spell on the sidelines. Yes he stood out 2/3 years ago in a poor, young, inexperienced side and from the odd highlight with Port Vale, he’s shown flashes of potential, but he’s not yet a first name on the team sheet, regular starter or consistent performer.

It’s another one where we are going to have to trust the people that know him best and watch/analyse him on a regular basis. If IE and FV think he brings something different/better than what we have in the squad they’ll put a deal on the table and as they have demonstrated recently they won’t be held to ransom but will reward where they feel it’s been deserved.

of course he might have a bad agent who is whispering in his ear he can get a contract in league2 so the agent get his signing on fee etc which will be better for a free contract player.

If things carry on for much longer as they are, he may feel his best chance of league one football next season is with Vale!

Only positive I can pull out of my arse tonight is that we've not tied ourselves down to too many players right now.

Yes, in Summer we could've done with getting more full-back cover, striker cover, etc etc.

But at least our squad isn't full of deadwood, got plenty of room to buff out the squad and a clearer idea of who can cut it at this level and who can't.

Big couple of transfer windows coming up if we want to keep progressing.

We almost ceased to exist 2 years ago. Have a bit of patience.

But a lot of folk don’t have that patience unfortunately.

These days, you’re only as good as the last game.

Short memories from some dimwits.

I have total patience mate. (Not saying "mate" in a condescending way either)

I'm one of the only ones on here who's said to give Kachunga some time to prove his worth. Not sure where you've read impatience out of my post.

Evatt and FV have my full backing and I'm not expecting overnight success, but it's quickly becoming apparent that we need fresh bodies in the building if we're going to progress to the next level. Some current players will also have to make way. I don't think that's impatient, it's just a fact.

Couple more transfer windows and we'll hopefully be in a better place. I'm saying it's a positive that we have space in the squad and not too many lengthy contracts on the books so we can continue to add to the team.

You could argue we are a better team than we're currently showing and we're just on bad form but we've had the same problems all season, not clinical enough and leaky in defence. Maybe that's the tactics, maybe that's the players but it needs fixing one way or another, and that will take time of course.

In the context of the last couple of years I'm satisfied with where we're at and of course we're lucky to have escaped from administration and landed on our feet with a good owner, I'm grateful for that, but there has to be some room for criticism of either players or poor performances.

An excellent post which currently reflects where we are.

It portrays the right balance of not writing-off the players we have and accepting we haven’t yet come out of our poor form from October, yet it highlights come January we’ll need some additions.

All done within the perspective of where we have come from and calling for patience.
